NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly

NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly The integrated care board for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We are part of the wider Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care System.

Our job is to plan and buy health and care services for the people registered with GP practices in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly. These services include planned hospital care, mental health and learning disability services, urgent and emergency care, children’s health services, community services, NHS 111, a GP out of hours service and some primary care services. This is a partnership of health and

care organisations who will work together to plan and deliver services and improve the health of people who live in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

‼️Do you know about Martha's Rule? A new patient safety initiative to support the early detection of deterioration by ensuring the concerns of patients, families, carers and staff are listened to and acted upon. to help detect signs of deterioration early — and it applies to patients of all ages.

For parents with children in hospital, you know your child better than anyone and may notice small changes before the care team does.

Please tell your care team if your child:
• has a high temperature — sweating, shivering or feeling hotter or colder than usual when you touch them
• has a different cry to normal
• has any changes to their skin, for example they are pale or have a rash (this may be harder to see on black or brown skin) or sores or blisters
• is unusually sleepy or hard to wake
• is irritable or restless
• is not interested in feeding, drinking or eating
• is breathing faster than normal, grunting with each breath or wheezing
• is peeing much less or has blood in their poo

Speak up about anything that worries you — it could help prevent more serious health problems.

If you're still concerned, Martha's Rule gives you the right to request a rapid review.
For more information, search ‘Martha’s Rule NHS’.

And don’t forget the new ‘Jess’s rule’ that means if you bring a problem to your doctor 3 times that have to take action and start further investigations.
