Greetings from Cornwall! This is the third post from my brand new series of landscape photographs exploring Leskernick Hill on Bodmin Moor.

Three recent early morning photographs on Leskernick Hill with a thin blanket of hard frost. In the carousel; the ‘Pyramid Stone’, a side shot including its long shadow, and a detail of the fractal patterns in the frozen puddle of water at the foot of the stone.

The Pyramid Stone
Whilst exploring the archaeological landscape one of the many standing stones caught my eye.

Its sturdy triangular shape set it apart from the rest the stones in the Bronze Age settlement.

The direction it is pointing towards, with Bron Wenilli, Cornish for ‘Hill Of Swallows’ in the distant horizon seemed significant.

A compass reading indicated the stone pointed WSW to a point where the suns sets on the evening of February 2nd.

Celtic culture referred to this time event as Imbolc, a liminal space between two seasons, a middle-ground between winter and spring.

In the Celtic Wheel of Time, Imbolc corresponds to the mid-way between the Winter Solstice (Yule) and the Spring Equinox (Ostara), and is celebrated from sunrise on February 1st through sunset on February 2nd.

It is a sacred event honouring the returning light, the stirrings of new life and the opportunity of renewal within the cycle that lies ahead.

That’s all for now!

I’ll be returning to this extraordinary part of Bodmin Moor and continue exploring.

Thank you so much for reading this post.

Greetings from Cornwall! I’ve recently started exploring the fascinating and secluded landscape around Leskernick Hill, in Bodmin Moor. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and part of our National Landscapes.

In the middle distance, tucked in the folds of the gently rolling landscape is Leskenick cottage. Built in local granite, dating from the 17th century, it remains sheltered by ancient oak. Along this shallow valley, in the heart of Bodmin Moor, is the source of the River Fowey.

This timeless unspoilt moorland remains untouched by modernity. This is wild Cornwall!

Being immersed in Nature is a wonderful way of mindfully reconnecting with self. Living in the present, engaging your senses and enjoying beauty all around you is a way of nurturing creativity.

Best wishes for the New Year!

Peace Happiness & Love
