🌷It was such a joy to welcome mothers and daughter to my taster session yesterday.

🌷I still have spaces left for my group starting on 18th May. If you know a girl in aged 10-12 (year 6 or 7), who would like to join a supportive group, to learn about growing up, where each girl is welcome and accepted, just as she is, please direct her this way.

🌷In our groups we meet once a month for a year, our sessions are creative, fun, and prepare girls for all of the changes and challenges of the teenage years.

🌷 The girls form strong bonds and become a source of support for each other, as they share their experiences, and have a safe space to talk, where they can ask anything.

🌷 To find out more, send me a DM, or email; jayne@ritesforgirls.co.uk

🌷 Follow the link for more information, or to book a space.

Is a smartphone free culture possible for our kids?

Can we return to play based childhood?

Before talking to our preteens and teens about their Smartphone usage, we need to look at our own. I had a social media break recently, I logged out of the apps, but still automatically clicked on them when I picked up my phone, showing me how habitual it is for me to
Look at Social media.

What are your thoughts about giving kids a smartphone, or will you give yours a dumb phone?

We think yes… and no! When smartphones were invented 15 years ago, they seemed like a great idea - at first. We could work on-the-go, connect, watch videos, find our way, and we had Google in our pocket. All very appealing for most, but not good news for our children. Smartphones are inadver

As parents we want to do a good job, of course we do. But what does that even mean? Here's my superpower as a parent. How I treat myself, and how I treat my children, is going to set the blueprint for how they’ll treat themselves.

Tips for Adults in Children’s Mental Health Week:

1. If a child is suffering, it’s our job to do something to help.
2. If you don’t know what to do then reach out for the support of other adults to guide you.
3. You are not powerless. Your love is powerful.
4. Listening is your super power.
5. Even if your child can’t tell you what is needed, your child’s behaviour will guide you.
6. Trust your intuition. You know your child, you love and care, that’s the best starting place.
7. Don’t go it alone. Every child needs a village of adults to look out for them.

This week is National Children's Mental Health Week. With the rise in teen mental health issues, speaking about it is more important than ever.

20.3% of eight to 16-year-olds had a probable mental disorder in 2023, according to the NHS 'Mental Health of Children and Young People, 2023'.

So what can we do about this?

✨ encourage them to do something they love at least once a week

✨ help them find other caring adults to open up to (as well as you)

✨ talk openly about how to deal with challenges and how to hold on to mental wellbeing, reducing the stigma

✨ create opportunities to have gentle and honest conversations with our girls, about anything and everything

What else do you think we can do about the rise in teen mental health issues?
🧠 💚

I have been honoured to witness the girls after their wild time. To see them wild and with with a sparkle in their eyes, with the wisdom from their time with eachother in nature, is truly magical!
