Happy World Nurses Day 🩺

Today means something special to us at Ashton Care.
Our story started with a nurse. Sue Newman, a mental health nurse, founded The Ashton Care Group over 40 years ago because she believed care should be built around people, not systems. That belief still runs through everything we do today, now led by her daughter Rebecca.
At Abbots Lawn, Emma and our brilliant nursing team carry that same commitment every single day. Providing complex nursing care, dementia support and end-of-life care with skill, compassion and genuine warmth.
To Emma, to every nurse at Abbots Lawn, and to nurses everywhere - Thank you! You make people feel safe, seen and cared for.

One phone call. That is all it takes.

A regular check-in with someone who knows you. Someone who notices when something feels different. Someone who can act before a small problem becomes a big one.

That is what our Wellbeing Retainer Service is about. Not full-time care. Not an emergency. Just someone keeping an eye on things so you do not have to worry.

Because sometimes the most powerful action is the simplest one.

If you have a parent or relative living on their own and you are not sure they would tell you if something was wrong, this might be worth a conversation.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme this year is Action.
Awareness matters. But action is what makes the difference.
At Ashton Care, we have been taking action for over 40 years. We were founded by a mental health nurse who believed that good care starts with understanding people, not just their conditions.
Whether it is regular wellbeing check-ins that give families peace of mind, home care that helps someone stay independent, or specialist nursing at Abbots Lawn for people living with complex needs, everything we do is built around one idea: do something, before something goes wrong.
This week we will be sharing practical things you can do if you are worried about a loved one.
Because action does not have to be big. It just has to happen.

Pulled over the car this morning because I spotted Karen and Dee out on their walk to the beach. ☀️
Had to introduce myself. We ended up having a lovely little chat on the pavement. Dee told me she was having a wonderful day and that she loves spending time with our team. You could see it.
Karen, thank you for what you do. And Dee - it was so lovely to meet you. 💙

I spotted a familiar blue uniform on the pavement this morning and had to pull over to say hello.
There was Karen, one of our carers, walking along the road with Dee, one of our service users, in her wheelchair. Just the two of them, out in the sunshine, heading to the beach.
Dee was absolutely lovely. We had a little chat on the pavement, and she told me she was having a wonderful day. You could see it on her face. She said she loves spending time with the staff, and honestly, the way Karen was with her, you could tell the feeling was completely mutual.
I asked if I could take a photo to remember the moment. They were both more than happy to.
This isn’t about what we do as a business. It’s about what it actually feels like to be part of something that matters. To see someone’s day genuinely shine because of the people around them.
That’s the whole thing, right there. 💙

WE DID IT!! 5,000,000 STEPS!

A massive well done to the team at Ashton Manor for completing the 5 million step challenge in support of Sage House.
This wasn’t a small achievement. It took consistency, teamwork and a lot of determination, all alongside the day-to-day of delivering great care.
We’re so proud of you! Thank you for putting your energy behind such an important cause.
