Proudly serving our local community for over 120 years

Stubbins & Hope are caring and compassionate funeral directors serving families across Chesterfield and the surrounding area. With a long-standing reputation in the community, we are here to provide steady guidance, clear advice and a truly personal service when you need it most.

We understand that arranging a funeral for a loved one can feel overwhelming, particularly at such an emotional time. From your first phone call, you will be supported by a calm, experienced team who will take the time to listen to your wishes, explain the options available, and help you make the arrangements that feel right for you and your family.

Our team is made up of fully qualified, highly experienced professionals who treat every family with dignity, sensitivity and respect. We believe that every life is unique, and every funeral should reflect that – whether you are looking for a simple service, a traditional funeral, or something more personal.
We can take care of all funeral arrangements on your behalf, including transport, officiants, floral tributes, orders of service and catering. We also have a private chapel of rest, offering a peaceful and respectful space for you to spend time with your loved one and say your final goodbyes.

For added reassurance, Stubbins & Hope are proud members of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD). As part of our NAFD membership, we adhere to a strict Code of Practice and are committed to maintaining the highest professional standards. This includes acting with integrity, providing clear information and guidance, and delivering a consistently high level of care – giving families confidence that they are in safe, trusted hands.

If you have suffered a loss and need a guiding hand, please contact us for assistance. From the first call through to the final farewell, we will ensure every detail is handled with care and consideration, providing a service built on trust, understanding, and over a century of experience within the community.

History

The independent family funeral service now known as STUBBINS & HOPE was founded in 1904 by Merrill Stubbins, a local business man. Originally he started making coffins in Scarsdale Street, Carr Vale before moving to the present premises at High Street. He was a builder and carpenter and also sold building supplies.

Following the death of Arthur in 1990 Jean continued with the business taking daughter Susan and son Simon into the partnership. Following Jean's retirement Susan and Simon now own and manage the business are proud to be the fourth generation of the family to be providing a high class personal service, that the people of Bolsover and surrounding areas have quite rightly come to expect, from one of the leading independent Funeral Directors.

From its humble beginnings in 1904 the business continues to grow under the leadership of Susan and Simon who are both members of the National Association of Funeral Directors and both hold the recognised NAFD diploma in Funeral Directing.

Susan and Simon both have children who show a keen interest in the business and are eager to take STUBBINS & HOPE into the fifth generation offering the same compassionate sympathetic professional service.
