History
The independent family funeral service now known as STUBBINS & HOPE was founded in 1904 by Merrill Stubbins, a local business man. Originally he started making coffins in Scarsdale Street, Carr Vale before moving to the present premises at High Street. He was a builder and carpenter and also sold building supplies.
Following the death of Arthur in 1990 Jean continued with the business taking daughter Susan and son Simon into the partnership. Following Jean's retirement Susan and Simon now own and manage the business are proud to be the fourth generation of the family to be providing a high class personal service, that the people of Bolsover and surrounding areas have quite rightly come to expect, from one of the leading independent Funeral Directors.
From its humble beginnings in 1904 the business continues to grow under the leadership of Susan and Simon who are both members of the National Association of Funeral Directors and both hold the recognised NAFD diploma in Funeral Directing.
Susan and Simon both have children who show a keen interest in the business and are eager to take STUBBINS & HOPE into the fifth generation offering the same compassionate sympathetic professional service.
