Another on site service in the mobile workshop. I offer this service for very basic clock servicing. Always assessing the clock before hand making sure there's no major wear etc making sure the clock only requires a clean and fresh oil. Anything more than that is completed in the workshop.

When you see a post on Facebook, the person asking how a courier should transport a clock so that he can pass the information on. I had to offer my expertise With over 30years experience in handling clocks and barometers of all kinds and values. After a few messages etc the customer was happy for me to carry out the work. I agreed to set the clock up on delivery but to say in needed a major service was a understatement. A happy customer and a day out. The hardest part of the day was..... when I pulled in at the services to cook my tea there was a burger king, was i going to have a burger king or cook the food I'd packed? It was a hard choice but I made the rite one 🤔.

When I know I can do something but it’s just not working that way, I have to keep going at it until I can do it as I know I can. When I said in my previous post about having to learn how to use my machine again and basically start from the beginning it annoyed me. So I had to carry on until I got it. Here’s the results. The first 2 glasses for a paying customer. I’m happy with them and I’m pretty sure they will be. These are to go to France via London in 6mm “White” glass.

Finally,

After having my 12 inch machine nearly 12 months I’ve finally got it set up and in a usable position.

After purchasing this brand new machine I thought I’d made a big mistake, I couldn’t get on with it and it was far too low on my bench. Fast forward to today and I’ve raised the machine so it’s in a higher position very nearly the same height as my old one and decided to have another go with it. I’m now feeling a lot better about it and I’m looking forward to using it. After several years of doing this I never thought I’d have to learn how to bevel glass on another machine. But with the new one having variable speed and the motor spins the opposite way that’s exactly what I’m doing. Hopefully this won’t take long and customers will be getting their glasses made on the new machine very soon. Keep your eyes open for the announcement of bigger bevelled glasses being available very soon.

The “van shop” has been out earning its keep today in Birmingham. Yes it’s only a table and chair in my van with electric hook up and a heater( needed that this morning🥶) but it works and I don’t have to inconvenience my customer by working in their home. 3 clocks for the same customer. First one was a London 8 day longcase that the chime train had been over wound without the weight on and over lapped on the winding harbour between the barrel and plate as well as a damaged chime wheel that needed repairing of a previous repair, Then all the old oil cleaned off and replaced with fresh. 2nd clock was a French style mantle clock with a twin bell Hermle movement just requiring a clean off of the old oil, a check over and fresh oil. I put it on the edge of the bench while I had my lunch and let it run for a hour. 3rd and last was a nice 30hr striking movement that required a cleaning and a check over. You can see the grime from this one in the photo. Also the last person to work on it nicely glued the hour hand back on which made it fun to take off. I got there in the end. The very nice lady who’s home I was at was over the move with my service I offered at her home and was very please that her clocks wasn’t taken away.
