Howorth’s expertise in engineering clean air is fundamental to our success in providing world class containment and infection control solutions, serving the global pharmaceutical, medical and wider industrial markets. Howorth manufacture a range of containment products to suit a variety of processes and applications. Howorth’s Biotechnology division provides a bio decontamination service of equipment and facilities. our highly trained engineers follow strict procedures to ensure a complete and fully validated bio decontamination process. A unique function of the BioGen service is its real time service monitoring, which gives immediate customer confidence that the bio decontamination process has been effective. All validated results, confirmed via BIs (Biological Indicators), prove that Howorth’s BioGen DVHP vapour phase bio decontamination service is an effective bactericide, virucide and sporicide process, and is biodegradable, leaving no residue. The Bio Decontamination process eliminates up to and inclusive of a 6 log kill (10-6).

Rugby League Cares have been instrumental in developing our Howorth wellbeing programme, they provide ongoing support for our staff, delivering their OFFLOAD mental fitness training and monthly drop-in sessions.

This year our Finance Director Adam Ainslie will be joining the team on their annual bike ride as they cycle the 300-mile route along Ireland’s wild and rugged southern coastline.

We will also have a team of riders at our site in Little Hulton saddling up on the WattBike to see if we can cover the 300-miles from the comfort of our reception.

Back in 2009, Cory kicked off his journey at Howorth as an Electrical Apprentice. Fast forward 16 years, and Cory's become a true Howorth success story, growing both personally and professionally.

Just last year, we were thrilled to announce his promotion to US Technical & Facilities Manager. That meant packing up and heading to North Carolina with his family to tackle this exciting new chapter head-on.

Ryan started as a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice at Howorth in March 2021. After completing his apprenticeship in 2023, he smoothly transitioned into his new role as a Pharma Assembly Engineer. He is actively expanding his expertise by acquiring additional skills in assembly and installation techniques for various pharmaceutical products within Howorth’s product range.

Charlotte started her apprenticeship with us in November 2023 where she is pursuing her Project Management Degree. Our Story

Air. It’s a wonderful thing, and at Howorth Air Tech, we should know.

For over 160 years, we’ve studied it, inhaled and exhaled it.

Our passion for air quality began in the poorly ventilated cotton mills of Lancashire. With a vision to protect workers, our founder, James Howorth, began manufacturing apparatus that would provide ventilation and drastically improve air quality. It would transform the lives and working conditions in the textile industry. But it was in the 1960s that world renowned orthopaedic surgeon, Sir John Charnley, recognised the need to create a micro-biologically clean surgical zone to avoid wound sepsis from airborne contamination. He formed a successful collaboration with Howorth, leading to the creation of the world’s first Ultra Clean Ventilation (UCV) system. It was the first in a long line of Howorth innovations which have had a profound and life changing effect on so many patients. Long may the clean air revolution continue.

Today, our drive to develop ground-breaking technologies for the healthcare market and design and manufacture specialist containment equipment for the pharma industry, shapes and defines everything we do. We’re continually looking to the future with an air of inspiration and pioneering pragmatism, using our knowledge to create solutions which will shape next generation technology in all our markets.
