Does your child seem completely drained after school, even on โ€œgoodโ€ days? ๐Ÿ”‹

For some children, the biggest challenge isnโ€™t the work itself.
Itโ€™s managing noise, transitions, expectations and social situations hour after hour.

Children with underlying needs such as autism or ADHD may be using enormous energy just to cope or blend in. When that effort goes unnoticed, school can quietly become exhausting.

If this sounds familiar, support is available and you donโ€™t have to work it out alone.

Have you noticed that some days of the school week feel harder for your child than others? ๐Ÿ“…

For many children, attendance difficulties are not the same every day. Mondays might feel overwhelming after a change in routine. Midweek fatigue can build. Certain lessons, environments or social situations may feel more demanding.

Looking closely at when attendance becomes harder can help families and schools understand what might be contributing.

Understanding the patterns below can help adults respond more thoughtfully and put supportive adjustments in place ๐ŸŒฑ

Attendance often improves when we understand what sits behind the pattern.

Are empty chairs always a sign of disengagement?

In a new blog for SEND Network, our Managing Director, Emma Sanderson, explores what school absence can sometimes mask, and why looking beyond the data matters.

In the article, Emma explores:

โ€ข Why attendance data can only tell part of the story
โ€ข How hidden barriers can shape a pupilโ€™s experience of school
โ€ข The risk of misinterpreting absence without deeper understanding
โ€ข Why early, joined up support is key

A useful perspective for those looking beyond attendance figures to understand what is really going on. ๐Ÿ”

What if support focused on the whole family, not just the child? ๐Ÿ’›

In one example from our work, a young person who had been finding school difficult was supported through a whole family approach.

By taking time to understand what was happening at home as well as at school ๐Ÿก๐Ÿซ, and working closely with both the child and their family ๐Ÿค, things began to feel more manageable.

Confidence grew, routines became more settled and school started to feel possible again ๐ŸŒฑ

Sometimes the biggest changes happen when everyone feels listened to and supported ๐Ÿ’ฌ

What will make inclusion bases effective as SEND reforms take shape? ๐Ÿ“˜

In her latest blog, our Managing Director Emma Sanderson looks at what schools should consider as inclusion bases become a central part of mainstream provision.

The focus is not just on creating a dedicated space, but on how that space supports inclusion across the whole school.

Emma explores:

โ€ข How inclusion bases can enable support without separating pupils from their peers
โ€ข Why a graduated approach helps schools respond to different levels of need
โ€ข The importance of specialist input and shared expertise
โ€ข How strong systems and staff development underpin effective provision

A thoughtful and practical read for school leaders thinking about how to embed inclusive practice more consistently across their setting ๐Ÿ”Ž

Has your child stopped seeing themselves as a learner? ๐ŸŽ’

Learning doesnโ€™t have to pause to be kind.
Sometimes it just needs to look different for a while ๐ŸŒ—

If youโ€™re exploring ways to support your child during a difficult period, weโ€™re here to help.

Can the right support help a child feel more confident about school again? ๐Ÿ’ซ

A parent recently shared this feedback after working with our Education Welfare Officer, Julia Jackson: ๐Ÿ—ฃ

โ€œMrs Jackson spoke with P and has helped her to work through many anxieties.Pโ€™s attendance has improved considerably, and I am delighted. I do not think that this would have been possible without the expert support of Mrs Jackson.โ€

We are so proud of the difference our Attendance team makes for children and families.

If attendance has become harder for your child, you do not have to navigate it alone.
