Did you know there are two different ways to protect your eyes after cataract surgery?
➡️ Routine cataract surgery: Uses daily eye drops after your operation. This works well for many people, but some find drops tricky, especially with arthritis, hand tremors, or memory worries.
➡️ Dropless cataract surgery: The same safe procedure, but with protective medication placed in the eye during surgery, meaning patients don’t need daily drops afterwards.
Both options are effective and deliver outstanding visual outcomes. What matters most is choosing what’s right for your eyes. Since 2021, we’ve been proud to offer dropless cataract surgery when it’s the safest choice for our patients.

Being told you may have age-related macular degeneration (AMD) can feel worrying, but you are not alone. If your optician refers you to SpaMedica, you will be seen quickly and cared for every step of the way.
Here is what you can expect at your first visit:
✔ A warm welcome from our specialist AMD team, who will answer your questions and guide you through the process
✔ Eye drops to check your vision in detail, so it is best to arrange transport and avoid contact lenses for 48 hours before
✔ Gentle checks including vision tests, pressure measurements and detailed eye scans
✔ Clear explanations and reassuring support from our nurses throughout
Your results are then reviewed by a consultant ophthalmologist. If treatment is needed, you will usually begin with monthly injections to help protect your sight before moving to a personalised schedule.
AMD cannot be cured, but it can be managed. With early detection and the right care, you can take control of your eye health and keep doing the things you love for longer.

Dropless cataract surgery, done right.
Since 2021, we’ve been offering dropless cataract surgery - a safe, innovative alternative that can free patients from the hassle of daily eye drops after surgery. For many, using drops several times a day is tough - especially with arthritis, shaky hands, or memory worries. Dropless surgery takes away that stress but is only offered to those who need it most.
Why? Because your eyes deserve the safest, most effective care for lasting vision. 👁💙

Too many people think they will face long waits for cataract surgery on the NHS.
At SpaMedica, the reality is very different. Our patients often tell us how amazed they are by the speed of their journey. Paul shared how he went from waiting and worrying to receiving treatment and enjoying clearer vision again in just a few short weeks.
On average, patients at SpaMedica wait around four weeks from referral to treatment. That means less time waiting and more time living with confidence, independence, and peace of mind.
Paul’s story shows that cataract surgery is not only about clearer sight, but about regaining the freedom to enjoy life fully.
