Let me reintroduce myself 👋

I’m Oliver Cope, a Sports Therapist based at Injury Mechanics.

I work with anyone and everyone, but naturally a lot of sporting and active people who want to move better, train harder and stay pain free.

My goal isn’t just to treat pain — it’s to help the body rebuild stronger and give you the knowledge behind why the injury happened in the first place.

My journey into this industry actually started through BMX racing.

Competing at a high level meant a lot of crashes and injuries, which made me fascinated by how the body recovers, adapts and rebuilds itself. That curiosity eventually led me into studying sports therapy and turning it into my career.

My approach focuses on finding and fixing the root cause, not just chasing symptoms.

Being an athlete myself means I understand the demands of training and competition, so I combine:

• Hands-on therapy
• Movement analysis
• Strength-based rehab

to help people move better, recover faster and perform at their best.

Outside the clinic you’ll usually find me:

🚴 BMX racing
🏊 Swimming (occasionally)
🚴‍♂️ Road cycling (fair weather of course)
🏋️ In a gym (love/hate relationship)

✔ Rehab tips
✔ Injury education
✔ Exercises for common issues
✔ Research broken down simply
✔ And probably a few memes along the way

Muscle testing 👇

It’s not just “hold it there.”

I’m assessing:
• How well the muscle switches on
• Strength under load
• Control through range
• Pain response
• Side-to-side differences

Sometimes weakness isn’t true weakness.
It can be inhibition, fatigue, or the body protecting something else.

Assessment first.
Then the right plan.

Test → Identify → Build.

Also me: fighting gravity for my life.

Cupping with movement 🟣

Ever wondered why your therapist asks you to move while cups are on?

Cupping with movement combines suction with active or passive motion to:
• Improve tissue glide between skin, fascia, and muscle
• Increase local blood flow and oxygen delivery
• Reduce stiffness and “stuck” feeling in tight areas
• Help desensitise painful or overloaded tissue
• Restore more comfortable, efficient movement patterns

It’s especially useful for athletes and active people who feel restricted rather than just “tight”.

Those circular marks? Just a sign the area needed a bit of extra help — they fade in a few days 😉

Important update 🚨
An ongoing UKHSA alert has linked Burkholderia stabilis infections to non-sterile, alcohol-free wipes. These wipes are not suitable for broken skin, wounds or medical devices, with higher risk for vulnerable individuals. A reminder that choosing the right product really matters in clinical and care settings.

Ever wondered why therapists use scraping tools?

They’re used to improve tissue movement, reduce stiffness and increase blood flow.
Not to “break down scar tissue” — but to help the nervous system tolerate movement better.

That short-term change is then used for exercise, strength and better movement.

The tool isn’t the treatment. Rehab is.
