SLOW DOWN AND GROUND . 🙏
Have you been feeling a little “off” the last week , maybe tired, irritated or emotional and you can’t put your finger on it 👆

It seems everyone I talk to feels the same way… so this week we will “Slow down and Ground “

There’s many reasons you could feel this way , the season is slowly changing , a lot is going on in the world and we can always blame the moon !

When energies are high we need to ground . 👣

We’ll start the practice with “Box breathing” it is fantastic for refocusing after a stressful day, it can lower blood pressure and help insomnia. 🤗

Physically we will use grounding inversions that focus on keeping the feet on the floor such as downward dog and standing forward bends .
This helps to build body awareness, confidence and a stable foundation by emphasising the connection to the earth ….Plus a few balancing poses which are always fun and help you to feel more balanced when you leave your mat . 💜

Grounding poses can stable the emotions and bring a sense of calm and peace to the body …along with a beautiful relaxation, mediation & essential oils … you’ll feel thankful you’ve given yourself the time to look after your whole wellbeing this week .

Yey! Candlelit yoga is back tomorrow evening ! The darker nights and candles really set up a lovely atmosphere in our room at Rivington one studio 🙏
All classes are suitable for all abilities, regardless of size, height and age ! They’re just numbers … yoga is for all bodies, especially yours . 🤗
Carve out just a little time each week and watch you body mind and breath come into balance.
You’ll leave with a Happy heart and a peaceful mind .

Each class is £10 cash on arrival or book a 5 week block for £45 .

Come and join me … as the Autumn season arrives 🍁… where the energetic ‘Yang’ energy merges into the cooler, calmer ‘yin’.
When leaves change colour, daylight is shorter & there’s a sense that the earths energy is gathering inward & preparing to “let go” for winter . 🍂
It’s a perfect time to ….
“ Release and let go “ with restorative yoga, removing the old and focusing on the things we value. 💜

All yoga poses are propped in restorative yoga using blocks, cushions and blankets .
Essential oils will be applied to bring the sense of autumn to the body and mind .
The sound of Tibetan bowls especially the Root chakra bowl will help to ground the body and bring a tranquil and peaceful feeling & experience to your practice. 🧘‍♀️

Child’s pose ( Balasana )
Last week at Bolton arena I asked my lovely yogis to write down their favourite yoga pose on a piece of paper, child pose got the most likes . 🙌
So this is the theme for this week 🙏

Balasana invites us to cultivate the qualities of a child .
Balasana is like a refuge. A breath of fresh air. A release. It’s where you can let go of all stresses and just be . 💚

Balasana is connected to the root chakra (energy centre) associated with grounding ,safety and security. ❤️
The sacral chakra which is connected to the hips and releasing emotions. 💛
The third eye connected to our insight and intuition.💜

There are many benefits of this pose including managing stress, lowering blood pressure, relieving muscle tension, stimulating digestion and the all important body-mind connection.
I will also talk about the mythology behind this pose and the story of balarama maybe helping to connect even more to this wonderful yoga pose .
They’ll be lots of options , and ways to explore child’s pose…. You just need to show up with your mat a big smile and breathe . 😁 Everyone welcome .

This weeks classes , we honour the bees 🐝 and especially this absolutely delicious local honey ( the best I’ve ever tasted) 🍯

I love it when I find out how interesting my yogis are and how passionate Beekeeper Sara is about what she does. 💛
How did I incorporate this into a practice I hear you say ??

Physically we will link poses very slowly moving like honey .

We will practice a beautiful breathing technique called bhramari pranayama ( humming bee breath )
when you hum you are creating space between your thoughts and your nervous system .
They say you can’t have thoughts when you hum? ? Give it a try!
It can also help you feel less anxious or overwhelmed.

The end of the class we will relax with a story of ‘The bee and the flower’ A dance of community. From a beautiful book called The Zen Monkey& the lotus flower .
I’ll throw in some amazing facts about bees for good measure. 🐝🐝🐝

Classes are suitable for all abilities. ( lots of options)
Work on how you are on the day , there’s no yoga body like your yoga body . Always be uniquely you .

If you come to my classes you’ll know I ❤️ POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS.
Positive statements used to reprogram the subconscious mind can help cultivate a more positive mindset, boost self esteem and improve overall wellbeing.
They can reduce stress, improve motivation and even influence behaviour patterns.
By repeatedly focusing on positive thoughts and beliefs, affirmations can help challenge negative talk ( we are our own worst critics!) and promote a more optimistic outlook on life .

This week we are using belts. 🤗
Belts are a great prop to use in yoga, they act as an extension of the arms allowing yogis to comfortably hold poses longer .

I always feel my shoulders and back of legs feel thoroughly stretched when I use a belt and my balancing is better .But every day is different.

This practice will end with a lovely meditation called ‘floating on a cloud’
last time I read it my yogis literally floated off somewhere and don’t remember the end 🤣 so second time lucky?
All classes are practiced in a non competitive atmosphere with fun and laughter and suitable for all 🙏
