KENNY

Kenny started the business running a premises in Dalkeith high street, while also looking after Linlithgow Rose Football Club. Kenny was scouted by the Scotland Football Association and became part of the International set up in early 90s and continued with them into the early 2000s. Kenny has also served Bonnyrigg Rose FC and worked at the club for many years before working from our current address in Bonnyrigg for the past 14. Kenny has over 30 years experience and is very well known and respected within Edinburgh and the Lothians. DONNA

Donna joined McIvor therapies in 2010. The business had grown and introducing a female therapist also gave clients a choice of male or female therapist. Donna has worked at the practice for over 12 years and alongside Kenny has built a respected and well know reputation. SCOTT

Scott has worked at McIvor Therapies for the last 5 years. Scott qualified in 2016 and spent 2 years working alongside Kenny, gaining knowledge of the body and gaining experience before joining in 2018. He also previously worked with local rugby side Lasswade RFC. WHAT WE DO

We will do a consultation which will include asking you questions about what the injury/concern is, where it is located, how long it has been sore for,if the pain travels, medication, any treatments that you may have tried, etc. If required we will carry out a muscle/tendon/ligament testing. TREATMENT

Using various massage techniques/traction/mobilisation to address the problem area, massage will be adapted to each client and feedback between us and client is crucial. We will constantly check that it's not to painful for you and each client is treated individually. Exercises for stretching/strengthening or both may be given out depending on the injury/issue.

THE I.T. BAND

The I.T. band or illiotibial tract is a fibrous band of connective tissue known as fascia that stems from top of the illiac crest, glute muscles and tensor fascia latae muscle, it then descends down the lateral thigh muscle and connects into the outisde tibia and outisde of the kneecap.

PURPOSE

The I.T. band helps stabilise the hip and knee and also helps transmit forces from the glutes and tfl muscle.

***** As the I.T. Band is connective tissue, it therefore cannot contract like a muscle. Therefore if the I.T band is tight, it's due to the muscles that it is attaching to that are tight (glutes, tfl, and vastus lateralis (outside quad muscle) *******

PAIN

Runners knee is a condition that occurs when the person feels pain which can feel like burning on the outside of the knee usually when a increase in training or higher intensity of training has happened. In addition activities such as going up and down stairs, kneeling or squatting may bring this pain on, as well as an over pronated foot.
