McIvor Therapies

McIvor Therapies For over 30 years McIvor Therapies have been serving Midlothian and Edinburgh with muscular injuries McIvor Therapies was formed in 1992 by Kenny McIvor.

The aim of the business was to help people with soft tissue injuries, painful conditions (such as arthritis, ankylosing spondolotis and fibromyalgia etc) and rehab injuries to get people back to normal quicker. Mcivor Therapies has 3 therapists both male and female. MEET THE TEAM

KENNY

Kenny started the business running a premises in Dalkeith high street, while also looking after Linlithgow Rose Football Club. Kenny was scouted by the Scotland Football Association and became part of the International set up in early 90s and continued with them into the early 2000s. Kenny has also served Bonnyrigg Rose FC and worked at the club for many years before working from our current address in Bonnyrigg for the past 14. Kenny has over 30 years experience and is very well known and respected within Edinburgh and the Lothians. DONNA

Donna joined McIvor therapies in 2010. The business had grown and introducing a female therapist also gave clients a choice of male or female therapist. Donna has worked at the practice for over 12 years and alongside Kenny has built a respected and well know reputation. SCOTT

Scott has worked at McIvor Therapies for the last 5 years. Scott qualified in 2016 and spent 2 years working alongside Kenny, gaining knowledge of the body and gaining experience before joining in 2018. He also previously worked with local rugby side Lasswade RFC. WHAT WE DO

We will do a consultation which will include asking you questions about what the injury/concern is, where it is located, how long it has been sore for,if the pain travels, medication, any treatments that you may have tried, etc. If required we will carry out a muscle/tendon/ligament testing. TREATMENT

Using various massage techniques/traction/mobilisation to address the problem area, massage will be adapted to each client and feedback between us and client is crucial. We will constantly check that it's not to painful for you and each client is treated individually. Exercises for stretching/strengthening or both may be given out depending on the injury/issue.

LATERAL FEMORAL HEAD

A Lateral femoral head is when the ball of the thigh bone moves laterally and upwards, usually from tight hip lateral rotators.

Signs of this is a toe out gait, at rest and when walking and a general feeling of instability in the hip.

A feeling of the hip/leg being wobbly, aching in the glutes and low back pain which can also radiate into the side of the hip may also be symptoms of a lateral femoral head.

Unfortunately McIvor Therapies will be introducing a £20 cancellation fee. If an appointment is cancelled within 24hrs a short notice cancellation fee of £20 will apply.

Recently we have been badly affected by people only giving a few hours notice,if that, therefore making it almost impossible to fill the appointment.

"THIS AFFECTS OUT LIVELYHOOD"

In line with all health professionals and other appointment based businesses, we will require a 24 hour cancellation notice.

Thank you for your understanding

FROZEN SHOULDER

The medical term for frozen shoulder is adhesive capsulitis, and is a very painful and debilitating condition that causes the joint capsule of the shoulder to thicken. There is 3 stages to frozen shoulder - freezing, frozen and thawing.

Freezing stage - a lot of pain and limited movement of the shoulder

Frozen stage - less pain but the shoulder still feels stiff and restricted.

Thawing stage - much less pain and more movement

This condition can last months or even years. Usually characterised by pain at the front of the shoulder, especially around the biceps tendon, supraspinatus, infraspinatus and suscapularis tendons. Pain may also radiate into the neck, back, chest and down the arms.

We can help.
