I’ve never been so happy to see a jar 🤣🤣🤣

Can you believe I forgot to pack my Body Smooth for my weekend away?!?!

All is right in the world again though as my whole body (from the neck down) got scrubbed this morning.

I think at this point I have about 10 empty jars 🤣🤣🤣 that’s 2 FREE body smooths from Tropic!

Did you know when you return 5 jars they give you a free one?

All about encouraging sustainability and recycling over here ✨🙌

Yesterday’s Kawasaki Disease follow-up appointment didn’t go 100% the way I’d hoped. But that’s ok.

Sometimes we have to take a step back and remind ourselves of all the positives going on 💚

✅ I have a little boy that’s ALIVE and (mostly 🤣) healthy

✅ We have a fantastic team of NHS staff who go above and beyond

✅ I have a wonderful client base that appreciates the freedom of movement and benefits of skincare, and this allows me to be at home with my babies and attend these appointments without worrying about work💚

Shout out to Societi, the U.K. Foundation for Kawasaki Disease. If you have kids in your life please make yourself aware of the Kawasaki symptoms 💚💚

This time last year, my love affair with skin was just beginning.

I’ve always had such sensitive skin, skin that kicked off at stress, food, weather etc.

I had recently tried the smoothing cleanser and was in awe at how easily it took my makeup off.. and how soft and fresh my skin felt afterwards - not irritated in the slightest. I’d never experienced that before.

So my next step was a Discovery Kit, a little treat for me under the tree. This little kit not only gave me the excuse to make myself a priority each night, but it gave me a few minutes of escape, a few minutes of me time… and that little bit of self care really turned my mental health around when everything around me was falling apart.

I’d love to help you make that space for you this year. If you’ve thought about trying Tropic, or you’re craving that way to give yourself some you-time - this is your sign!

Purchase a Discovery Kit for just £34 this weekend & I’ll add in a little gift from me 🎁 simply get in touch to order.

What’s in them? Everything you need to take care of your skin. Each little kit will last for a few weeks - a little goes a long way! Not sure which one is right for you? Then get in touch - I love a good chat 💚🙏

Saturday morning can be when backs start to shout after a long week at work.

How’s your back feeling this morning? If it’s saying hello, take this as your sign to give it some love.

This is one of my absolute go-to exercises. A gentle shoulder bridge to get things moving.

• Start lying on the floor, find a relatively good alignment (aka not all squint or twisted)

• tilt your pelvis backwards (pressing back into the floor) and forwards (trying to create an arch) a few times to gently start moving things

• then pressing your back into the floor and hold it there for a few breaths. As you hold, visualise your spine and see how many notches of it you can feel connecting with the mat. Repeat a couple of times

• then from here, press your feet evenly into the mat, squeeze those bum cheeks and start to lift your hips up off the mat, followed by your spine

• go slowly. See if you can move one notch of your spine at a time

• only go up as far as you are comfortable to. You might go a little further each time, or not. You’re working to what your body can do today

• on the way down, try to get every bit of your lower back touching the mat before your hips come down

After a few of these, your back should be feeling much looser and ready to get on with your weekend 💚🥰🙏

What have you done for you today?

There’s still time left if the answer is ‘nothing.. yet’

It could be as simple as sitting with a cuppa, reading a chapter in a book, or painting your nails 💅🏻

After a rough few days with an ill toddler.. I’m making time for me tonight with a lovely hot bath!

I was thinking earlier about how when we still lived in town, we didn’t have a bath. We lived in that house for 7 years.. how did I cope 🤣😩

Anyway, this is my favourite thing to add to the bath. It has a beautiful blend of sleepy scents to help you relax & unwind… and I’ve just had a new bottle delivered today as this one is almost out 🤭 🛁

Let me reintroduce myself 👋

Well, hey there! My names Becky and you might have seen my face on this page before. In fact, this page has actually been going for over 10years now.

A bit like myself, it’s had a couple of changes along the way. Starting as Pilates with Becky, then to the studio page Mind Body Midlothian and now Mind, Body & Skin with Becky.

A few weeks ago, I closed the studio doors for the last time. In this short time since, I have questioned repeatedly whether this was in fact the right decision. But I always come back to the same answer.. yes.

This was reaffirmed even more today whilst I spent a few hours in the Sick Kids with my immunocompromised toddler. In those few hours, for the first time in a long time, I realised I could just be mum.

I never really wanted to be a ‘boss’, what I wanted was the freedom & flexibility of self-employment but with enough of an income to help provide for my family.

For a long time I thought that meant having the biggest bricks & mortar business possible. But truthfully.. the bigger things got, the less I actually earned as the bills just got bigger too. The pressure got bigger. The responsibility got bigger and my mental & physical health took the weight of it all until it couldn’t anymore.

So today I am full of gratitude. Gratitude for all the wonderful strong women that have been a part of my journey so far, gratitude for the opportunities I’ve been able to take and a massive amount of gratitude to our phenomenal NHS and it’s awesome staff 🙏🙏

So.. hi! I’m Becky.. I’m still a Pilates teacher (just 1-1s for now 🤭), I still battle my mental health on the regular, and my obsession for the last 6 months has been skincare & how it’s given me so much self-care and nourishment that I didn’t even know I needed.

💚

A post that I’ve been putting off for some time.. it’s time to say goodbye.

We closed the doors to MBM for the final time a couple of days ago.

What an amazing 6.5years it has been in this special space, surrounded by wonderful people who have helped create the most lovely community.

I have adored the space that we formed, a sanctuary for me at some of the toughest challenges I have faced in my personal life and I know it was that safe space for many of you too.

However, as much as I liked to only think about the pretty side of it all, at the end of the day it was a business, with huge overheads.

The reality is, that without me teaching every day, there simply wasn’t enough coming in to pay all the bills.. and then give myself a wage.

This wore me down over time, until I knew that my physical & mental health couldn’t keep it going any longer. The joy had gone from something I loved, and it was time for change.

Time to prioritise my family, be present with them again, and find myself again. That time is now.

Although we say goodbye to the studio, the community remains.. in slightly different form.

My team of movement teachers will continue on, in new spaces, with many familiar faces. I’ll be sending out details of this via email to our mailing list shortly.

I’ll be taking a break from teaching for a bit, focusing on building my Tropic Skincare with Becky business (which is all about self-care and has kept me sane these last few months!)

However, I will return to teaching at some point next year.

This page will change slightly over the coming months, how exactly that will be I’m not 100% sure. It will be focused around self-care though, I know that much and I hope you’ll be there on that journey with me 🩵

Thank you to you all,
Becky xx

Our Story

Hello! I’m Becky Robertson and I began working in the fitness industry over 9 years ago and was inspired to train as a Pilates teacher after seeing the difference Pilates makes to people.

As a mum of two young kids I understand the importance of creating you-time in the busy muddle of life. Before having my baby daughter my day job was sitting at a desk in an office… where there wasn’t much movement. This showed me first hand the difficulties and issues brought about by leading a sedentary work life. I love the freedom teaching Mat & Aerial Pilates has given me and I am so excited to share these styles of Pilates with you and hope you feel the benefits as much as I do.

I am continually learning and attending workshops and courses to further my knowledge and career. Recently I added an Assessor qualification, allowing me to work with training schools for those working towards a career in the fitness industry.

I absolutely love working with beginners and seeing the progress and achievements my clients make… no matter how small they are. If you have any questions at all, please do get in touch, even just for a chat!
