Important Notice about patient returned sharps in Midlothian.
We are aware of the current difficulties being experienced by some patients when trying to dispose of their sharps, and of the impact that this is having.
A locally negotiated service has been in place with community pharmacy to enable patients to return their sharps to pharmacies for safe disposal. Unfortunately, all Midlothian pharmacy contractors have now withdrawn from providing this service.
From Monday 6th January 2025 sharps bins can be returned to the Midlothian vaccination service, based at:
MIDLOTHIAN COMMUNITY HOSPITAL
70 Eskbank Rd, Bonnyrigg,
Dalkeith EH22 3ND.
Please use the Cairngreen entrance ( to the left of the main entrance to the hospital)
Drop-offs can be made with the vaccination service reception staff during the following times:
Mon-Fri 9.00 - 16.00
Closed for the public holidays
We fully expect a number of community pharmacies to resume the sharps service in the new year. Further information will be published as soon as possible.
Please note - Sharps bins must be correctly labelled, sealed and not overfilled, otherwise the vaccination service cannot accept the bin. Replacement sharps bins will be provided on return.
