Sarah Weller Ceremonies Individually crafted and meaningful ceremonies for funerals. weddings, civil partnerships, vow renew

I work with people to create beautiful ceremonies that mark our milestones in life. I am certified and trained by The Fellowship of Professional Celebrants in both family and funeral celebrancy. A ceremony or ritual can be created to tell your story and mark the occasion in a way that is truly personal to you. There are no 'off the peg' ceremonies in my work - each one comes from my meeting with y

ou and really getting to know what is important and meaningful to you; only then do I craft the ceremony or ritual.

A simple ceremony of thanks on the shore to the backdrop of a very powerful sea on the North Shore of Lindisfarne.

A day of reflection throughout the country. A minute's silence at noon today to stop and contemplate as a community.
For so many, it is a thought that fills their every day and we offer them our love and support.

Continuing bonds- "Here is the 30 second summary: under this model, when your loved one dies grief isn’t about working through a linear process that ends with ‘acceptance’ or a ‘new life’, where you have moved on or compartmentalized your loved one’s memory. Rather, when a loved one dies you slowly find ways to adjust and redefine your relationship with that person, allowing for a continued bond with that person that will endure, in different ways and to varying degrees, throughout your life..."

With decades of grief theory that focused on closure, acceptance, and moving on, it is no wonder that so many grievers feel self-conscious about maintaining ties with their deceased loved one after a certain period of time. We posted a few weeks ago about the continuing bonds theory […]

A lovely testimonial received today with a request for me to add it here:-

'Our family worked with Sarah to create two very unique and special funeral ceremonies, for our mother and for my sister-in-law. Sarah made the difficult experience of putting together a service in distressing times, so very much easier. She is compassionate, intuitive and a good listener. She managed on both occasions to grasp the real ''essence''of the person we wanted to remember and helped us put together something ''whole'' and special, from what at first seems just a jumble of suggestions and ideas with no structure. This makes a huge difference at a time when no one is thinking quite straight. The family would not hesitate to recommend Sarah's services, it is a very special skill to know when to guide and when to lead in these circumstances and Sarah hits the right balance instinctively, she is a very lovely soul and easy to work with.'

Natural Home Funerals

This is a really thoughtful piece on the current situation.

This is a really thoughtful piece on the current situation.

Thousands are now dying in hospital ICUs around the country without the supportive presence of their loved ones at the bedside. Funerals are being held with fewer than 10 people, or not at all. Funeral directors are unable to provide the comforting space for families to mourn and remember their love

Service update - It is very likely that funerals will shortly become completely unattended. Direct cremation or burial will mean that families can hold a memorial service at a later date but not a funeral in the usual way.
The marking of someone's death with a ritual or service is really important and with so many in isolation too, the usual way to gather is not going to be possible.
To help mark the passing, I will be offering services and rituals through the video link on Google Meet. I can 'meet' with the family and write the service and then arrange a day and time to invite them to join me online and deliver the service for them all from their homes. Although it isn't the same as being together in person, I hope that the shared ceremony will provide a focus and comfort in these unprecedented times.

Today we brought trees in pots into the service hall and wove twinkly lights through their branches, creating a woodland indoors, for a gardener who loved nature.
A table held items that were important to him, his coffin had been completely covered with photos. His art was printed in the Order of Service and he was carried in by family and friends. Poems were written and tributes given, his two much loved dogs wandered around peacefully.
A unique celebration of life, for a man who really was one of a kind.
