🚨 Cannabis isn’t always as harmless as people think.

A recent story highlights the rising number of people experiencing cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) – a severe cycle of nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain linked to long-term cannabis use.

At UKAT, we are seeing more individuals reaching out for help after struggling with the physical and psychological impact of heavy cannabis use. What many don’t realise is that withdrawal can be intense, symptoms can last weeks, and recovery often needs structured support.

🌱 If you or someone you support is struggling with cannabis dependence, CHS symptoms or withdrawal, you’re not alone.

Specialist advice and treatment can make a real difference.

It takes real courage to share something so personal, and by doing so, he’s helping to break down stigma, raise awareness and remind others that addiction can affect anyone.

At UKAT, we believe no addiction is too hidden, no cost is too high, and no person is beyond help, and Ore’s honesty reminds us of that truth. If you’re caught in a cycle of shame, isolation or secrecy, you are not alone. If Ore’s story resonates with you, please know that support is always available.

We were featured on ITV News last night, bringing to light the troubling rise in misuse of weight-loss injections and the link to eating disorders.

At Banbury Lodge in Oxfordshire, 60% of recent patients have admitted to misusing these injections.

Dimitra Theofili, Eating Disorder Therapist at UK Addiction Treatment Centres (UKAT), shared alarming insights:

“Even teenagers as young as 16 have taken their parents’ weight-loss medications… With the injections, they stop eating completely, so their organs will start failing. They can end up in a much more critical state…”

🚨 Rehab admissions for ketamine addiction have almost doubled in the last five years — and younger people are most at risk.

At UKAT’s Sanctuary Lodge, Centre Manager Jade Clark says the rise is largely due to a lack of awareness around the dangers of ketamine use:

“We’ve seen a huge increase in younger people being admitted. People often use ketamine to self-medicate mental health issues because it dissociates them from reality — but it actually does the opposite. It may suppress pain for a moment, but it can lead to PTSD, anxiety and low mood.”

Jade adds that many clients entering treatment “didn’t recognise the dangers of ketamine” and often believed it was safer than other drugs.

“When someone starts using ketamine, it can have irreversible effects on their kidneys, bladder, and breathing. Awareness is absolutely crucial.”

At UKAT, we provide intensive therapy and coping-skills programmes to help people reframe their thinking, understand triggers, and build sustainable recovery.

If you’re worried about your own or a loved one’s ketamine use, help is available. 💬

🚨 Co***ne use among over-65s is on the rise.

New figures reveal a significant increase in hospital admissions related to co***ne use in older adults across the UK, a trend that highlights how addiction truly does not discriminate by age.

UKAT’s Head of Therapy, Zaheen Ahmed, speaking to The Mirror, explained:

“Some older people experiment with co***ne because they have more disposable income, fewer responsibilities, and more free time. Others may be using it as a way to cope with loneliness, bereavement or the mental-health challenges that can come with ageing.”

While conversations around addiction often focus on younger generations, these findings remind us that substance misuse can affect anyone. Older adults may be particularly vulnerable due to isolation, loss, or managing multiple medications — factors that can make the risks of co***ne use even more severe.

At UKAT, we’re committed to raising awareness that recovery is possible at any stage of life. Compassionate, confidential help is always available. 💬

🚨 “A tsunami of p**n addiction” — children as young as eight exposed to shocking online content 🚨

A powerful new report from reveals the growing crisis of children being exposed to explicit material online — with experts warning of a “tsunami” of p**n addiction affecting the next generation.

Zaheen Ahmed, Head of Therapy at UKAT, told GB News:

“The tsunami is already here for those with p**n addiction. One of the biggest problems is the smartphone — everything is available in their hands, and p**n addiction changes the way the brain develops.”

This is a wake-up call for parents, educators and policymakers to take action and talk openly about online safety, mental health and early intervention.

🚨 Britain’s Ketamine Problem: The Party Drug That’s No Longer Just for Parties

Over the past few years, Ketamine has quietly become one of the fastest-growing drug concerns in the UK — and the data now confirms what frontline clinicians have long suspected: Britain is hooked on Ketamine.

At UKAT, we’ve seen Ketamine-related admissions more than double since 2020, revealing how this once-niche club drug has evolved into a serious public health issue.

Our data shows two distinct patterns of use:
Ketamine (Only) – individuals addicted solely to Ketamine.
Ketamine (Poly) – individuals combining Ketamine with other substances such as alcohol, co***ne, or cannabis.

And it’s the polydrug use that’s fuelling the real danger. Mixing Ketamine with alcohol depresses the body’s vital functions, increasing the risk of unconsciousness and overdose.

Combined with co***ne, it places huge strain on the heart and can trigger violent mood swings, paranoia, and severe confusion.

The top combinations we’ve treated include:
Alcohol + Ketamine – 202 cases
Co***ne + Ketamine – 131 cases
Cannabis + Ketamine – 117 cases
Alcohol + Co***ne + Ketamine – 117 cases

Far from being a harmless “party buzz,” chronic Ketamine misuse can cause irreversible bladder damage, cognitive decline, and severe depression. The growing number of younger adults and students seeking help is a stark reminder that its dangers are being underestimated.

At UKAT, we’re committed to raising awareness and providing evidence-based treatment for those affected.

It’s time to face the facts: Britain’s Ketamine crisis is here — and it’s escalating fast.

💊 Rising reliance on antidepressants highlights a mental health system under pressure.

Nearly 92.6 million antidepressant prescriptions were issued in England last year, a record high. Our CEO, Daniel Gerrard, warns: “The post-COVID mental health shock is not fading. In fact, more people are on antidepressants than ever before.”

At UKAT, we see the impact firsthand. While medication is often necessary, many people need more holistic, personalised support to address underlying causes of stress, trauma and addiction. Our evidence-based programmes provide therapy, recovery support and tools for long-term wellbeing, helping individuals heal beyond prescriptions.

💚 Today is World Mental Health Day 💚

At UKAT, we know that mental health and addiction are deeply connected, and that recovery begins with understanding, compassion, and access to the right support.

This year’s theme, “Mental health is a universal human right,” is a powerful reminder that everyone deserves the chance to live well, free from stigma and shame. Too often, people struggling with their mental health or substance use feel isolated or afraid to ask for help.

Today, we stand with them and reaffirm our commitment to making treatment and recovery accessible to all.

Let’s keep having these conversations, checking in on one another, and challenging the barriers that stop people from seeking help.

Because mental health support shouldn’t be a privilege — it’s a right. 💬💚
