Ketamine harm is rising across the UK, and many people still do not realise how quickly serious health consequences can develop.

Our centre manager at Oasis Runcorn, Kerry Dare, recently sat down with ITV to speak about the growing impact of ketamine use, the reality we see in treatment, and why early awareness matters.

What can begin as occasional use can affect bladder health, memory, mood and everyday life. By the time warning signs are recognised, people often feel overwhelmed and unsure where to turn.

If you are worried about yourself or someone else, support is available.

Addiction and anxiety often go hand in hand.

Many people turn to substances to cope with:
• Constant worry
• Panic symptoms
• Racing thoughts
• Emotional overwhelm

But treating only the addiction or only the anxiety can leave the cycle unbroken.

When mental health and addiction are supported together, real healing becomes possible.

If you or someone you care about is struggling, you do not have to face it alone.

💡 Recovery works best when the whole person is treated, not just the symptoms.

A recent report has once again highlighted the growing demand for specialist addiction services for young people, alongside the limited capacity of provision across the UK.

At UKAT’s Banbury Lodge clinic in Oxfordshire, we support young people aged 16 to 18 through a dedicated residential programme designed to meet the complex clinical, psychological and emotional needs that often sit behind substance use. Our teams provide 24-hour clinical and therapeutic support, recognising that crisis and recovery do not operate on a set time schedule.

Nick Dunkley, Operations Manager, has spoken about the importance of treating not just addiction itself, but the wider emotional, behavioural and environmental factors that contribute to it. He has also underlined the need for greater investment in early, preventative services, where timely intervention can help avoid escalation into crisis.

The Children’s Commissioner has described a postcode lottery in access to care for young people. This is something we see reflected every day in families seeking urgent support and professionals working hard to secure appropriate placements for those at risk.

Access to the right support at the right time - ideally close to home - can be life-changing. It gives young people the stability, clinical oversight and family involvement needed to build a foundation for lasting recovery.

This issue reinforces the importance of collaboration between healthcare providers, commissioners, schools and community services. No young person should be left without a clear pathway to support when they are ready to accept help.

If nothing changed between now and next year…
How would that feel?

Not every turning point comes from hitting rock bottom.
Sometimes it starts with a quiet thought that something needs to change.

You do not need to have all the answers today.
Just the courage to ask yourself the question.

At UKAT, we offer free, confidential advice and support for anyone struggling with addiction or mental health concerns, or for those supporting a loved one. No pressure. No judgement. Just a conversation when you are ready.

What are the benefits of Dry January?

Dry January is a challenge where people choose to go alcohol-free for January. It’s not about labels or long-term rules – it’s about pressing pause, resetting habits, and seeing how alcohol affects your body and mind.

Many people notice:
✨ Better sleep and more energy
🧠 Improved focus and mood
❤️ A break for your liver and overall health
💷 Extra money saved
🤍 A clearer relationship with alcohol

For some, it’s an easy reset. For others, it highlights how big a role alcohol plays in daily life – and that awareness can be powerful.

💬 Are you taking part in Dry January this year?

🎄✨ Daniel Gerrard sending a very special festive message from all of us at UKAT.

As our Christmas campaign comes to a close, we’ve been reflecting on the substances people use during the holidays and, more importantly, the reasons behind it. It’s been a reminder of the power of honest conversations, approached with awareness, balance, and compassion, for ourselves and for others.

A huge thank you to all the professionals and individuals who shared their experiences and knowledge throughout the campaign. Your voices have helped open up conversations that too often go unspoken during this festive season.

We know Christmas can be difficult, especially for those in recovery or supporting loved ones who are struggling. Remember: help is always available, and reaching out is the first step to overcoming addiction.

Looking ahead to the new year, let’s carry forward the messages of understanding, hope, and community, not just at Christmas, but all year round.

From all of us at UKAT, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎉💚

Stimulants such as Adderall, co***ne and amphetamines may promise focus and energy, but they take a heavy toll on both body and mind.

Long-term use can lead to insomnia, anxiety, heart problems and burnout. For many, the pressure to perform or fit in becomes a dangerous cycle.

Today’s Spotlight on Stimulants reminds us that success should never come at the cost of your health. Recovery is the real achievement, and support is always available.

If you or someone you know is struggling, call 0808 163 3227 for free, confidential support.

Codeine, a common painkiller, is one of the most widely misused prescription drugs in the UK.
Because it is available over the counter in small doses, dependency can develop quietly until withdrawal becomes difficult to manage.

Today’s Spotlight on Codeine reminds us that dependency does not discriminate. Safe use, medical supervision and early support are essential for recovery.

If you or someone you know is struggling with codeine use, call 0808 163 3227 for free, confidential support.
