It was national gum health day at the weekend.
We want to highlight how important gum health is and why we should prevent gum diseases. Of course, you know going to the dentist regularly and visiting the hygienist often is good. This allows a deep clean of your teeth and gums which in turn reduces the risk of gum disease.
But why do we want to prevent gum disease. The following videos explain why:
1. There has been a link found between Periodontitis (gum disease) and Type 2 diabetes. Please see this video for more information:

2. There is also a link between oral bacteria and inflammatory diseases, heart diseases and many more conditions. This video explains how this happens: https://www.efp.org/for-patients/gum-disease-general-health/oral-health-and-systemic-health/
This is why it is so important to have regularly dental and hygienist appointments.
