Borth Reiki, Hypnotherapy & Counselling Services Supporting clients with their mental health in a supportive and confidential environment
(1)

My vision as a qualified counsellor and hypnotherapist is to serve the individual needs of each client and in turn create a world where trauma and anxiety are healed in a more compassionate way that leaves you, the client, feeling in control of your own healing. It is my belief that trauma and anxiety cannot be healed by talking alone and a more diverse, holistic approach brings with it a more compassionate way of healing which brings a real difference to the lives of clients. I have worked with Reiki since 2008 and have attuned over 100 students to this healing energy. Because I have a knowledge and understanding of energy and how that energy works on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level, I bring something new to psychotherapy. Through neuroscience and the use of EFT I can teach clients how to coregulate their own nervous system so that trauma and anxiety can be worked through in a safe therapeutic environment. I have worked with the tarot since 2001 and over that time became very interested in Jungian psychology. I have recently completed an area of study around using the tarot in therapy to help clients understand their unconscious processes. This has proven to be very valuable in clients understanding themselves at a deeper level. I chose this path because someone very close to me has a serious mental health illness along with a diagnosis of autism. There was very little choice of counsellors out there who were willing to work with my loved one on a holistic level. What he really needed was an approach which was more creative, where he could walk and talk with the therapist out in nature so he did not feel intimidated being in a closed room where his anxiety levels would inevitably rise. My loved one missed their needs being met in therapy because nobody was willing to think outside the box of what was thought of as traditional therapy. I believe that if a client is paying for a service, they should have a say in how they want their needs met and be offered a broader range of options. If you wish to choose the traditional way (and most clients do), then this is absolutely fine, but if you need something more diverse and therapeutic, you have the option to access this type of therapy with me. As a qualified counsellor and hypnotherapist, I am registered with the National Counselling and psychotherapy Society and the National Hypnotherapy Society. Their ethos is to support their members to approach these therapies as a vocation. I see my work as my soul purpose and maintain high levels of professionalism and confidentiality. I take continued professional development seriously and dedicate a lot of my free time to this to ensure I am able to keep up to date with new approaches and innovative new ways of bringing healing into the lives of my clients. I have regular supervision for both of these modalities and as such abide by the strict code of ethics outlined by the NCPS and the HS. My qualifications are:

I went to the Mind Body Spirit Festival on Friday and, after having my aura photo taken, I watched Paul McKenna. It really reminded me how different hypnosis and hypnotherapy actually are.

In the UK, the term “hypnotherapist” isn’t protected — which means anyone can call themselves one, even if they’ve only done a short course. Some people are really offering hypnosis, not hypnotherapy, and the difference matters.
Hypnosis
Great for things like:
✨ confidence
✨ simple phobias
✨ sleep
✨ performance
✨ habits
✨ straightforward weight loss
(no deeper issues attached)

Hypnotherapy
Needed when things are more complex, such as:
🔥 trauma-based phobias
🔥 obesity
🔥 addictions
🔥 eating disorders
🔥 anxiety linked to past experiences
These issues require therapy, not just suggestion work.

I trained in hypnotherapy over a full year of face-to-face learning, but it wasn’t until I completed my Level 4 counselling training that I was able to work safely with complex and trauma-related issues. That depth matters.
Because if you see a hypnotist for a phobia that was caused by trauma — and the trauma isn’t addressed — the symptom usually stays, shifts, or comes back.

This isn’t to put down hypnotists at all. Many are brilliant. Just check where your therapist did their training.

It’s simply to help you understand what kind of support you need depending on what you’re dealing with.

I hope this helps someone make a more informed choice. đź’› sharonleescounselling.co.uk

Fabulous day today at the annual Creative Counsellors Gathering in Chester, lovely to meet up with other Counsellors around the country and see some old friends, brought some new therapy cards to use in the therapy room too!

The fallen Angels were incredible, hearing emotional stories of how dance is being used to help those with addiction. Don't think there was a dry eye after hearing their stories and seeing their dance. Truly inspirational and shows how true healing is healed through the body. đź’—

I'm attending training today on anti oppressive supervision, very interesting, learning about power dynamics, class, gender, identity, race, religion, neurodiversity, culture. How our blueprint both unconscious and conscious affect our therapeutic relationships. Our own blueprint is created in a world of inequality which is inevitably going to influence the therapeutic space. Making lots of notes! 🙂💕

Managed to grab some free time this week going out for walks in nature. So beautiful this time of year. So much information out there on how being in nature alone can really help our mental health, we should all do it more often ❤️ 🍂

Why I Don’t Believe in “One-Size-Fits-All” Counselling

When I first began working with people, it became clear very quickly — no two stories are ever the same.
One person might need to understand their past, another needs help quieting their anxious thoughts, and someone else just needs to feel heard for the first time in their life.

That’s why I became an integrative counsellor.

My journey started with Reiki — learning how energy, emotion, and the body are deeply connected. Then came hypnotherapy, and later counselling, where I studied the theories that help us understand how people think, feel, and heal.

Today, I bring all of that together.
Because you’re not just a set of symptoms or a label. You’re a whole person — mind, body, and spirit — and your therapy should reflect that.

If you’ve ever wondered what “integrative counselling” really means, or how it could help you, I’ve shared a new blog about it here 👇

I spent last weekend learning more about trance healing, and it really deepened my understanding of how energy and emotion connect. As a counsellor, I don’t go into a trance state with clients, but I do work from an intuitive space where healing and presence meet.
If you’ve ever wondered how counselling and energy work can complement one another, you might enjoy my latest blog. 💫 https://sharonleescounselling.co.uk/2025/10/15/trance-healing-and-counselling-a-deeper-connection/

Had a fantastic weekend in London learning new healing techniques and experiencing some wonderful healing myself. I can’t recommend Chris Ratter highly enough — an excellent and inspiring tutor! Got to stay in this quirky accommodation on the banks of the River Thames too 🥰

Big news from the UK Reiki Federation!

We’re delighted to share that members of our own UKRF Research Team have co-authored a peer-reviewed paper, recently published in Complementary Therapies in Medicine on Science Direct.

👉 “How important are meditation and spirituality in Reiki practice?” brings together the latest research to explore how Reiki may support health and wellbeing.

Publication in such a respected journal is a major achievement and a milestone for Reiki research – raising awareness, building credibility, and opening new doors for wider recognition of Reiki in professional and healthcare settings.

👏 We are incredibly proud of our research team for their dedication and hard work in bringing this study to life.
