The Chico Curumim village () is home to some amazing indigenous artists. Here are some pics and videos of the work from the family, including Yaka, Rita, Bene, Txana Tuin and Nawa Ibã, who I had the chance to meet on this trip.
Nearly all the pieces are direct visual interpretations of the traditional prayers used in ceremonies, and in some of the videos you can hear Bene chanting those same prayers.
You also get to meet my godson, (the baby in the first video is Nawa Ibã) and there are a few pics from some of the art we did in the village.
This way of translating prayer into image is also carried forward by collectives like MAHKU () and Kayatibu (), both closely connected to this lineage through art, music and cultural work.
For those interested, you’ll be able to experience the music and art of these talented people when Tamani, Yaka and Shane join us in the UK in May. .revolution.festival
