Cervical cancer develops when abnormal cells grow in the lining of the cervix. Screening can prevent most cases, and booking your test could save your life.

Who is eligible?
• Women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64
• Every 3 years (25–49) and every 5 years (50–64)
• If you are overdue, contact Greyfriars Surgery to book

What happens at the appointment?
• A trained nurse takes a small sample of cells from the cervix
• The test is quick, usually around 5 minutes
• It may feel a little uncomfortable but should not be painful

HPV facts
• HPV is very common
• High-risk HPV can lead to cervical cancer
• The sample is tested for HPV to spot early changes
• You still need screening even if vaccinated

Cervical screening saves lives. If you’ve received your invitation or think you are due, please get in touch with Greyfriars Surgery to arrange your appointment.

Your liver is one of the most important organs in your body. It is bigger than you might think and quietly gets on with hundreds of important jobs every day. But most of us don’t often think about our livers, or how we can help to keep them healthy. Anyone can be affected by liver disease. But the good news is that many cases can be prevented or treated if you take action early.

Your liver is also amazingly good at repairing itself. But it can only take so much, getting help now could help it to heal and could stop you from becoming unwell.

If you think you could be at risk of liver disease do not wait until you have symptoms to get help. Many people will not get any symptoms until they are already very unwell. So it is important to find out if you could be at risk, and what you can do now to help your liver.

Top Tips for Staying Warm & Well This Winter

Cold weather can affect anyone’s health - especially older adults, young children, pregnant people and those with long term health conditions. Here’s how to keep yourself and others safe and comfortable this winter

Stay Warm at Home
• Heat the rooms you use most to at least 18°C if you can.
• Reduce draughts with draft excluders.
• Keep bedroom windows closed at night.
• Wear several layers of thinner clothing.

Look After Yourself & Others
• Keep moving indoors, don’t sit still for long.
• Check on friends, family & neighbours who may be vulnerable.

If You’re Going Out
• Wear warm layers and sturdy shoes.
• Plan for bad weather and make sure you’ve got enough food & medicine.

Need Extra Help?
• If heating costs are a concern, there are grants, benefits and support available to help with energy bills and home improvements to save money available on the government website.
