Eating well supports both our physical and mental health, yet many people find food and routine difficult at times. Eating Awareness Week is a gentle reminder that nourishment is not about perfection, but about balance, awareness, and being kind to ourselves.

Eating habits can have a real impact on how we feel day to day, for example:
• Regular meals help maintain energy and concentration
• A balanced diet supports immunity, heart health, and mood
• Skipping meals can affect blood sugar and emotional wellbeing
• Healthy eating is about balance, not restriction
• Small, realistic changes are often more sustainable

If food or eating feels stressful or overwhelming, support is available beyond the Greyfriars Surgery:
• One You Lincolnshire offers free support with healthy eating and lifestyle changes
• British Nutrition Foundation provides trusted, evidence-based nutrition advice
• Beat Eating Disorders offers guidance and support for anyone concerned about eating behaviours

Taking one gentle step this week can make a meaningful difference.

The MMRV vaccine now helps protect children against measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox. These infections can be serious, especially for young children, but vaccination offers strong and long lasting protection.

If your child is eligible, you will receive a text message from Greyfriars Surgery inviting you to book their vaccination. Please check your contact details are up to date so you do not miss this important message.

Vaccinations not only protect your child, they also help protect vulnerable people in our wider community.

If you have any questions or concerns about the MMRV vaccine, our team is here to help.

Children’s mental health matters – every day

Our children’s emotional wellbeing is just as important as their physical health. Good mental health helps children learn, build confidence, form healthy relationships, and cope with life’s challenges. When concerns are recognised early and support is put in place, it can make a lifelong difference.

Why it matters:
• 1 in 5 children experience mental health difficulties
• Emotional wellbeing supports learning and school attendance
• Early support can prevent problems from becoming more serious
• Feeling listened to helps children feel safe and understood

If you’re worried about a child or young person, help is available beyond Greyfriars Surgery:
🔹 CAMHS – NHS mental health support for children and young people
🔹 YoungMinds – advice for young people, parents, and carers
🔹 Kooth – free, confidential online support for ages 11–25
🔹 Place2Be – mental health support within schools
🔹 Childline – free, confidential support for children and young people (📞 0800 1111)

You’re not alone, and neither are they. Reaching out is a positive first step

Your safety matters to us

Did you know that medicines bought online or from another country can sometimes be different from UK prescriptions – even if the name looks the same?

Some medicines may:
⚠️ React badly with other treatments
⚠️ Need regular blood tests to stay safe
⚠️ Have different ingredients or strengths
⚠️ Lead to the wrong dose or treatment

That’s why it’s really important to let us know about any medication you’re taking, wherever it’s from. It helps us keep your care safe and effective.

We’ve shared this information in the posters below for our wider community.

If you’re unsure or have questions, our team is always here to help.

🗣️ Keeping us informed helps keep you safe.

Most people do not know their blood pressure, cholesterol or BMI, yet these numbers quietly play a big role in heart health. As part of Heart Month in February, Know Your Numbers is a simple reminder that a few checks can make a real difference.

High blood pressure and raised cholesterol often have no symptoms, which means many people feel well while their heart is under strain. Knowing your numbers helps you understand your risk and take action early, even with small lifestyle changes.

Checking your numbers is straightforward and can be done during routine health checks or appointments. It is not about judgement or perfection, it is about awareness and prevention.

If you are unsure of your numbers or would like advice on heart health, please speak to the team at Greyfriars Surgery. We are here to help you take positive steps towards a healthier heart.

A few minutes today could protect your heart for years to come.

𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮

Did you know that free smart wristbands are available for people living with dementia in Lincolnshire?

These NFC Dementia Safeguarding Bands store the wearer’s name and next-of-kin contact details and can be quickly read using a smartphone. If someone becomes lost or disoriented, this small wristband can make a big difference in helping them get back to a place of safety sooner.

If you are a carer, family member or friend of someone with dementia who is mobile in the community, you can request a band on their behalf.

Simply scan the QR code on the poster and complete the short form.

Feeling safe and supported matters, for patients and for those who care for them.

Most of us rarely think about our oesophagus, until swallowing becomes uncomfortable or something does not feel quite right. Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder to pay attention to persistent changes and to trust your instincts.

Symptoms can be easy to dismiss at first, especially when they develop gradually. Ongoing difficulty swallowing, frequent heartburn or indigestion, unexplained weight loss, chest discomfort, or feeling food is sticking can all be signs worth checking if they persist.

Noticing symptoms does not mean something serious is wrong, but early conversations matter. Getting advice sooner can lead to reassurance or early investigation if needed.

If you have ongoing symptoms or concerns, please contact Greyfriars Surgery. Our team is here to listen, support and guide you to the right care.

Looking after your health starts with noticing the small changes.

Your heart works hard for you every single day, often without you giving it a second thought. Heart Health Awareness Month is a gentle reminder to pause, check in with yourself and look after the organ that keeps everything moving.

Heart disease does not always arrive with loud warning signs. Small, everyday choices can have a powerful impact over time, from staying active and eating well to managing stress, stopping smoking and attending health checks when invited.

Looking after your heart is not about being perfect. It is about making steady, realistic changes that fit into your life and asking for advice when something does not feel right.

If you have concerns about your heart health or would like support with lifestyle changes, the team at Greyfriars Surgery is here to help. A simple conversation today could make a meaningful difference tomorrow.

Your heart matters. Take a moment this month to care for it.

World Cancer Day is a reminder of the importance of prevention, early detection, screening, and compassionate care. Small actions like attending screenings, looking after your health, and supporting one another can make a real difference.

At Greyfriars Surgery, we are here to support our patients with advice, screening information, and ongoing care.

Together, we can raise awareness, show kindness, and offer hope.

World Cancer Day

Today we recognise all teams involved in supporting and treating people affected by cancer, and we acknowledge the strength of the patients themselves—those currently going through treatment and those who have already been through the journey.

A special mention goes to the Boston PCN Cancer Care Coordinator Team. The team is automatically notified when a fast-track referral is made, enabling them to help ensure tests are completed and results returned promptly, appointments are in place, and delays are minimised. They track and support patients throughout the pathway, offer ongoing support and signposting following diagnosis, and play an important role in encouraging participation in cancer screening programmes.

Their work was recognised last year when they were awarded General Practice/PCN Team of the Year (2025). Thank you to the team, and to everyone involved in cancer care and support.
