Painful deep corns like these that Tammy our senior Podiatrist removed yesterday.
Here’s why they hurt and why some people keep getting them.
These photos show nucleated corns, sometimes called “core corns.”
They form a hard central plug that presses downwards into the skin which is why they feel like:
🦶Walking on a tiny stone
🦶Sharp, stabbing pain with every step
🦶Burning, bruised or tender pressure points
Why some corns come back even when removed fully and safely (which we do in clinic), corns can reoccur if the pressure underneath hasn’t changed.
This can be from:
• Foot shape or bony prominences
• Collapsed arches or gait issues
• Standing for long periods
• Thin fat padding under the feet
• Tight or thin-soled shoes
This is why some people never get another corn and others rebuild one in the exact same spot.
What we do at Orchard Health Group:
✔️ Remove the full corn core for instant relief
✔️ Offload the pressure to slow recurrence
✔️ Advise the best footwear for your foot shape
✔️ Create orthotic or cushioning solutions if needed
✔️ Set up routine maintenance if you’re prone to them
Patients usually walk out saying:
✨ “It feels so much better already!”
Why this saves money long-term:
By treating both the corn and the cause you avoid:
• Repeated chemist pads
• Overuse of acid plasters (which damage good skin)
• Constant pain every few weeks
• Infections from picking or DIY removal
Your feet feel better, stay healthier, and cost less to manage over time.
