We can spread the distribution load by changing the size of the heel drop in the shoe. It can protect and de-load an already occurring injury.

A low heel drop puts more load within the ankle and calf, deferring away from the knee, where as a higher heel drop spreads the force upwards towards the front of the knee and away from the ankle and calf.
