The Importance of Hydration for Older Adults
As the weather gets warmer, staying hydrated becomes even more important—especially for older adults.
Dehydration can happen quickly and may lead to fatigue, confusion, urinary infections, and an increased risk of falls. As we age, the feeling of thirst can reduce, which means many people may not realise they need to drink more fluids.
At Radfield Home Care Wycombe, Beaconsfield & South Bucks, we support our clients to stay safe and well by encouraging regular fluid intake throughout the day.
Simple ways to support hydration:
✔ Offer drinks little and often
✔ Provide a variety of options (water, squash, tea, milk)
✔ Keep drinks within easy reach
✔ Include foods with high water content (like fruit and soups)
✔ Gently remind and encourage throughout the day
Staying hydrated helps maintain energy levels, supports overall health, and improves wellbeing.
If you’re supporting a loved one, a small reminder to drink can make a big difference.
