Bourne2Shine Support group for Parent Carers of children with Special Educational Needs(SEN)-Bourne & surroundings

Bourne2shine is a community support group for families of children with disabilities and special educational needs living in or attending school in Bourne. We aim to provide emotional and practical support to our parents facing these unique challenges, both through our private Facebook group and at in-person events. We offer the vital opportunity to socialise with similar families at weekly coffee

mornings, monthly tea time clubs, and seasonal events and parties. We aim to provide all events to our families for free to help alleviate the financial burden we know they can face. We also give support with form filling, advice, and signposting to ensure our families receive all the help they need. Our aim is to ensure no local families with children with disabilities ever feel alone.

Mythbusting 👇

❌ Myth: Your child needs a diagnosis before you can apply for an EHC needs assessment (the first step to getting an EHC plan).

✅ Fact: A diagnosis is not required. The legal test sets a relatively low threshold, and parents or carers can apply for an EHC needs assessment themselves if they think their child has, or may have, SEN, and they may need special educational provision to be made through an EHC plan.

It is with saddened news that myself and the trustees of Bourne2Shine have decided to dissolve the charity with an immediate effect. The achievements we have made in the past 9 months have been amazing and heartwarming but at this moment, we need to take a step back, reevaluate where we would like the charity to go and our aspirations for it.

The Bourne2Shine Facebook groups will remain in place, as we still wish to offer the online support to parents/careers. Please carry on to use this space as you always have done.

We shall be offering a coffee morning in up coming weeks. Please keep and eye on the events section for information 😊

Myself, Lisa, Sian, Tom, Jayne and Debbie would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support. It has truly been incredible and we couldn’t have achieved what we have done without your support.

Many thanks, Lorraine and trustees 💙🌻💛
