🐶 Patrick’s IVDD Recovery Journey 🐾
This is Patrick, a Dachshund who was diagnosed with Grade 3.5 IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease). IVDD is a common condition in Dachshunds where the discs between the vertebrae degenerate and can compress the spinal cord, often leading to sudden paralysis.
Patrick required surgery to remove the disc material and relieve the pressure on his spinal cord. Before his surgery, he had lost the use of his back legs – a frightening experience for both him and his family.
Now, just 3 weeks post-surgery, Patrick is having physiotherapy twice a week, alongside exercises at home. Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in IVDD recovery by:
✅ Maintaining muscle strength while mobility is reduced
✅ Supporting spinal healing and circulation
✅ Encouraging correct movement patterns
✅ Helping dogs regain the ability to stand and walk
Thanks to his hard work (and his family’s dedication), Patrick is already able to stand and put weight through his back legs – a fantastic milestone in such a short time after surgery.
His journey highlights how early physiotherapy intervention can make a huge difference to recovery outcomes in IVDD cases. With time, consistency, and ongoing support, Patrick has a great chance of regaining even more mobility.
💙 Well done Patrick – we’re so proud of your progress!
