Amy Hammond, Health and Wellbeing Coach at the Galletly surgery takes delivery of the first set of exercise bands from Sue Hills, representing the Galletly Patient Participation Group (PPG). They were funded by the PPG from the sale of books and CDs in the surgery.
Amy will trial these sets with her patients, with the aim of helping them improve their fitness and enabling them to carry on exercising at home with their own set of bands. More sets of bands will be purchased if they prove successful.

Hay Fever - it seems to be that time of year again!
For 3 years Fexofenadine has been available to buy from your chemist so we wont be prescribing this for you
🌼Eye drops (sodium cromoglycate) from the supermarket ... take 2 weeks to start working so start using them now!
🌼Wash your hair and face every night before bed so that you're not sleeping with pollen on your pillow
🌼Dust your room down daily to remove pollen
🌼Try to sleep with your windows closed
🌼Loratadine will not make you sleepy, there are lots of other antihistamines you can buy from your pharmacist, please ask them for advice. You can now buy fexofenadine over the counter, this used to be prescription only.
🌼 Also use nose spray with a steroid in it - ask your pharmacist for advice
🌼Nasal saline rinses can also be helpful https://www.nhs.uk/.../non-allergic-rhinitis/treatment/....
🌼 We do not offer the injection here, it is not available on the NHS due to a lack of evidence and we strongly advise against it.
🌼 All of this advice can be sought from your pharmacist or online https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/hay-fever/
Find out about the symptoms and causes of hay fever, who's affected and what treatments are available.

We are aware of the tree that has fallen from the back of our carpark into The Croft. We have a tree surgeon coming to remove it tomorrow. Sorry for any inconvenience. If the manager of The Croft is able to return our call please do so, in the meantime we have put tape and cones out to make this as safe as possible overnight.

Anyone born before 1st May 2015 will not have been offered a meningitis B vaccination during their usual childhood vaccine schedule.
If schools offered vaccines elsewhere we may not have been informed.
We have not been given additional vaccines to provide any but you may be able to seek private vaccines if you wish.

We have had a lot of queries about meningitis today. The news of an outbreak in Kent is really sad and you are understandably worried.
Patients who are older than 10 you haven’t had the meningitis B vaccine and, currently we have not received advice to give this.
We also have been told not to provide antibiotics unless advised by public health hubs.
For those who are at university or colleage in the Kent region, here is some info:
Meningococcal bacteria that are usually carried harmlessly in the back of the nose and throat with transmission most likely to occur after close and prolonged contact or after sexual or other intimate contact that enables the spread of the bacteria.
Close contact is defined as prolonged close contact with the case in a household type setting during the 7 days before onset of illness.
Examples of such contacts would be those living and/or sleeping in the same household, pupils in the same dormitory, boy or girlfriends, or university students sharing a kitchen in a hall of residence.
The definition of close contact does not include:
- staff and children attending same nursery or crèche (note – see caveat below)
- students or pupils in same school, class or tutor group (note – see caveat below)
- work or school colleagues
- friends
- residents of nursing or residential homes
- kissing on cheek or mouth (intimate kissing would be considered close, prolonged contact)
- food or drink sharing or similar low level of salivary contact including shared vapes
- attending the same social function
- travelling in next seat on same plane, train, bus, or car
This list is not exhaustive and should be considered in context for any individuals when prolonged contact has taken place, for example, with multiple episodes of shared va**ng, drinking or straw sharing in an enclosed and intimate setting like a bar
