What Progress Looks Like in Training (It’s Not Always Obvious)

What progress looks like in training is rarely dramatic. It’s easy to imagine progress as something visible - heavier lifts, new skills, obvious milestones. Sometimes it is. But often, progress is quieter than that. Subtle improvements.Better control.More consistency.Less hesitation.Clearer understanding. And because those changes are subtle, they’re easy to miss. Why We Misunderstand What Progress Looks Like in Training…...

Not all progress is dramatic. Sometimes the biggest improvements are the quiet ones - the kind you only notice when you look back. If you’ve been doubting your training lately, this is for you.

Programme vs Coaching: What’s the Real Difference?

Programme vs coaching is a question many people don’t ask until progress slows down. At first, a well-written programme feels like enough. It tells you what to do. It structures your week. It removes guesswork. For a while, that works. But over time, something changes. The exercises are clear, sets are written and the structure exists; yet progress feels uncertain. This is where the difference between programme vs coaching becomes important....

A good programme gives structure. Coaching gives interpretation. If your training feels unclear despite having a plan, this explains why.

How to Prioritise Training for Better Progress

How to prioritise training is one of the most important skills you can develop if you want long-term progress. Most people don’t struggle because they lack effort. They struggle because they try to improve everything at once. Strength, skill, mobility, conditioning, weak points (although I often find people avoid those 😅) accessories. All of it feels important. Without clear priorities, training becomes busy instead of productive....

Strength. Skill. Mobility. Conditioning. If everything feels important, nothing truly improves. Here’s how to prioritise your training so progress finally feels clear.

Why Training Feels Unproductive (Even When You’re Doing a Lot)

Why training feels unproductive isn’t always obvious. You can be consistent, disciplined, and doing plenty of work - yet still finish sessions unsure whether you’re actually moving forward. You leave tired, you trained hard - everything ticked off. So why does it still feel unclear? In most cases, the issue isn’t effort. It’s structure. You’re Trying to Improve Too Many Things at Once…...

You’re consistent. You train hard. You tick everything off... So why does progress still feel unclear? Here’s what’s really happening when training feels busy but not productive - and how to fix it.

Benefits of Coaching for Training: What Actually Changes

Benefits of coaching for training are often misunderstood. Most people expect their sessions to get harder, longer, and more intense. Instead, something much quieter happens. Training gets clearer. That shift surprises almost everyone at first, because the change isn’t about doing more. It’s about understanding what matters. Many people don’t realise the benefits of coaching for training until they experience this shift themselves....

Most people think coaching means more drills, more volume, and harder sessions. In reality, the biggest change is clarity. Here’s what actually shifts when you get coaching.

Self-Coaching in Training: Why Progress Slows (and What to Do Instead)

Self-coaching in training sounds like a good idea. You show up consistently. You put the work in. You care about how you move. Yet progress often feels slower than it should. This is where self-coaching in training often starts to break down. Across strength, weightlifting and gymnastics training, this pattern appears again and again: consistent effort without proportional results. In most cases, the issue isn’t motivation....

You’re consistent. You care about how you move. You put the work in. So why does progress still feel slow? This explains the hidden problem with self-coaching - and what actually changes it.

The Strength & Skill Club: Personalised Strength, Weightlifting, and Gymnastics Coaching in One Programme

Why most training feels fragmented At some point, many people notice that training starts to feel confusing rather than productive. Strength sits in one place. Gymnastics practice happens somewhere else. Weightlifting is sitting on the sidelines. Although everything exists, nothing truly connects. As a result, progress feels inconsistent. Small aches creep in. Training starts to feel busy instead of purposeful....

What happens when strength, weightlifting, and gymnastics are designed to work together — with coaching support to guide you through it.

Do you actually need a programme… or do you need support?

Many people reach a point in their training where they ask the same question: 'do I need a workout program?' If progress feels inconsistent or frustrating, the instinct is often to look for a better plan, more structure, or something new to follow. But after years of coaching, I’ve noticed something important. Most people don’t struggle because they lack a programme....

Why coaching support and accountability often matter more than adding more workouts.

Most people treat these like different types of training.

A strength day.

A skill day.

A lifting day.

But they should all be feeding into each other.

When they’re programmed together, progress feels faster, smoother, and far less frustrating.

That’s the difference inside Strength & Skill Club.

You don’t need another programme.

You need:

✅ Accountability

✅ A place to ask questions

✅ A coach to sense-check things

✅ Extra drills and ideas to improve your training

So I built a members coaching community on Swarm.

It’s the same space my 1:1 athletes use - but now you can join without being on a full programme.

This is for you if you’re already training… and just want support, guidance, and a coach in your corner.

I’m giving 50% off your first month as a thank you for being here.

DM me COMMUNITY and I’ll send you the code.

Why I No Longer Offer Skills & Drills 1:1 (and What I Recommend Instead)

For a long time, Skills & Drills 1:1 coaching was a big part of how I worked with people. It allowed us to focus on specific gymnastics movements, break down technical issues, and give very personalised support around individual challenges. At the time, it worked well. Over the last few years, though, I’ve seen a clear pattern in the athletes I coach....

I’m going to be posting a lot less on Instagram.

Not because I’m doing less.

But because I’m doing more of the work that matters.

Over the last few years, I’ve realised something:

Posting workouts, drills, and tips all the time makes me look like a gymnastics add-on.

But that’s not what I do or who I am.

I coach adults in how to combine strength, weightlifting, and skills into training that actually progresses.

That takes time. Thought. Programming. Coaching.

And that’s where my energy is going.

So instead of trying to be 'helpful’ on here every day, I’m focusing on the people inside my world - where the real coaching happens.

I’m so grateful for the following I’ve built on here, you’ll still see me here, just with less noise and more intention. After all, I'm always telling everyone that in order to see progress, you need to show up intentionally!

If you want more from me than just tips and tricks - because I am much more than that - you can find me here:

- Strength & Skill Club 1:1 Online coaching
- My email list
- My blog
- My NEW members only Strength and Skill community

You can find more information on all of this in the link in my bio.

Because that’s where the real work is happening now!
