🎃🚑 Happy Halloween from the Valkyrie medical team! 👻

As you enjoy the spooky fun tonight, here are a few safety reminders from a pre-hospital point of view:

🕯️ Be Seen:
Dark costumes look great in the dark — but not to drivers! Add reflective tape or glow sticks so trick-or-treaters stay visible.

🍬 Check the Treats:
Avoid homemade or unsealed sweets — especially for little ones with allergies.

🔥 Costume Safety:
Check labels for “flame-resistant” materials and keep costumes away from candles or open flames.

🚗 Road Awareness:
Excited children can forget road safety — drivers, slow down in residential areas and expect the unexpected.

💉 If an Emergency Happens:
Call 999 immediately for any serious illness or injury — we’re here to help 24/7.
If it’s minor, local walk-in centres and NHS 111 can advise.

👩‍💼 And for those pub, bar and nightclub owners if you require assistance with medical cover tonight give us a shout. We have a couple of standby teams still available ready to roll just in case.

🧡 Stay safe, look out for each other, and have a frightfully fun evening!

+++AMBER HEAT HEALTH ALERT+++

Please check on friends and family with vulnerabilities. If you are unable to please ask a friend. We have a team ready to help if you need it either at any events we are operational on or by contacting us to see if we can check in on family if you are unable to.

🥵Keeping out of the sun between 11am-3pm
🥵Exercise in cooler parts of the day - such as early morning or late evening
🥵Close curtains and windows in rooms facing the sun to keep rooms cool
🥵If you go outside, wear a hat, cool clothing and use sunscreen
🥵Drink plenty of fluids and limit alcoholic drinks

Find out how to spot the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke (and what to do about them) here on the NHS website: https://ow.ly/UOkp50WcgSZ

Hot weather and thunderstorms can trigger symptoms in those who suffer with lung conditions such as asthma.

If you notice the weather makes your symptoms worse and you are needing to use your inhaler more frequently, please talk to your pharmacist, contact your GP or NHS 111 or if you are at a event please feel free to talk to the Medical Team.

With temperatures forecast to rise over the next few days, a 'very high' pollen count and thunderstorms expected, if you have a lung condition take extra care to prevent an emergency.

People with asthma, COPD and other lung conditions can find breathing more difficult in these conditions.

Remember:
✅Carry your inhaler with you at all times
✅Take preventer medication
✅Take hayfever medicines

It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of Professor Douglas Chamberlain.

A pioneer, a mentor, and a true visionary, Professor Chamberlain was rightly regarded as the grandfather of paramedicine. His unparalleled contributions laid the very foundations of our profession—not only shaping the role of the paramedic but championing its development with unrelenting dedication and compassion.

Professor Chamberlain’s work transformed pre-hospital care in the UK and around the world. His commitment to clinical excellence, education, and patient-centred care has saved countless lives and inspired generations of paramedics. We owe him an immense debt of gratitude.

Though he is no longer with us, his legacy is woven into the fabric of our profession. Every paramedic, every patient helped, every life saved bears the imprint of his vision.

On behalf of Valkyrie Medical and the entire paramedic community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. Rest in peace, Professor. Your legacy lives on.
