🌞 Why You Should Avoid Tanning Before IPL Treatments (Real or Fake)
Whether it’s a sun tan or a spray tan, here’s why tanning and IPL don’t mix:
☀️ 1. Increased Risk of Burns or Skin Damage
IPL targets pigment (melanin) in the hair follicle. If your skin is tanned, it contains more melanin, which can confuse the device and lead to burns, blistering or hyperpigmentation.
🌫 2. Spray/Fake Tan Creates a Barrier
Even though fake tans don’t involve UV, they create a layer on the skin that can interfere with the light penetrating properly, reducing the treatment’s effectiveness and increasing the risk of reactions.
🕒 3. Better Results on Untanned Skin
Untanned, natural skin allows the IPL to more accurately target the hair follicle without picking up excess pigment in the skin – giving you safer, faster, and more effective results.
💡 I recommend avoiding sun exposure, sunbeds, and fake tan for at least 2 weeks before treatment.
