It’s been a little while since you’ve heard from me on Instagram but behind the scenes there has been alot going on… I’m so happy to say that I’m 27 weeks pregnant. It has taken a lot to get to this point and hasn’t been an easy pregnancy but all is going well and I am very excited for what the future holds. ❤️
Clinic is still open and will likely be until mid May depending on how big I get and how much I can still do but if in doubt I am and will be on my emails if you have any questions. harriet.hhphysio@gmail.com.
I hope to be back on Saturdays and evenings from September but this is tbc.

Testimonial time.. I just love hearing what a difference education, treatment and advice can make.
Do you have a pelvic organ prolapse? Or think you may have? Have you ever seen a pelvic health or women’s health physio?
Surgery is often thought of as the only option but it isn’t and really should only be for those who have tried everything else.
It all starts with learning about your body and what is actually happening!
If you would like to learn more please contact your local Women’s health physio or if you are in and around Bournemouth, you can contact me via my website www.hh-physio.co.uk

Are you due a smear test but you are dreading it and putting it off? Is it just too painful?
Did you know that women’s health Physio’s can help you reduce this pain?
A personalised appointment will get to the bottom of why this is so and put you on a treatment program to resolve it.

Sufferers of vaginismus, dyspareunia or endometriosis will likely find it much more painful but there is lots that can be done, so PLEASE don’t just put it off. Come and speak to a womens health physio today!

In the meantime the following tips can help:
+ use a va**nal moisturiser in the lead up to the appointment and on the day to make sure the tissues around the va**na aren’t dry and sore YES VM is a great product for this
+ ask your GP for a va**nal oestrogen particularly if you are breastfeeding or if premenopausal or menopausal age. This will help the internal va**nal tissues be a bit plumper and less sensitive.
+ Breathe. We often hold our breath in anticipation of pain and in doing so will cause the pelvic floor to hold more tone. If you take deep diaphragmatic breaths during the assessment it will help the pelvic floor stay relaxed.

I hope to get this rectified very soon but in the meantime please don't take any notice. I am open for Business in Queen's Park Bournemouth and very happy to help you.

Do you drink enough water?

Many people reduce how much they drink because they are too busy, worried about leaking or just maybe don’t like water.

The human body is made up of 70% water which needs replenishing to optimise our function.

One of those functions is the softness of your stool. The amount of water you drink directly correlates with how hard or soft your stool is. By being dehydrated it makes it much harder to pass a stool and can increase likelihood of bearing down or straining.

Bearing down or straining can put increased pressure on the pelvic floor, potentially making it weaker and also a downward force on the pelvic organs which we want to avoid as much as possible.

Good levels of hydration have a direct correlation with the pelvic floor, so make sure you drink enough.

Recommended amounts slightly differ depending on your size but on average are 2litres for an adult and 3 litres if you are breastfeeding.

Returning to running is often a goal of postnatal women that I see but doing it at the right time is key.

It is advised to wait 12 weeks postnatally before returning to running. This is key because the body needs time to recover from the pregnancy and birth.

What can a women’s health physio appointment do to help?

During an appointment we assess your

* Pelvic floor strength
* Posture
* Biomechanics around the pelvis
* Strength of the muscles around the pelvis

You will then be given a personalised program to help ensure that the muscles around the pelvis are strong enough to cope with the load of running and that increased loads aren’t put on structures that can’t cope with them.
