Today some of our residents from our beachside community went out for a minibus trip to mudeford Quay when the rain had stopped for a short time. We all had a delicious hot chocolate and looked out onto mudeford spit, unfortunately the murky sky stopped us from seeing the Isle of Wight today but it did not dampen our spirits. We are so looking forward to better days when we can come and enjoy an ice cream whilst sitting outside.

National Bird Day is celebrated every year on January 5th. Since several species are under threat, it is more important than ever to raise awareness of such fascinating animals. From ostriches to eagles to blackbirds, there are thought to be almost 10,000 species of birds currently in existence.

Staff and residents at Southbourne Beach Care Home - Avery Collection made some fat balls for our birds in the garden and we held a bird photo competition, residents voted for the best bird photo. Well done to Kirsty our head receptionist for winning with her photo of a Robin in her garden.
We are now getting ready for the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch at the end of the month; we can’t wait to see how many different types of birds we can spot in our garden.

Last night activities staff Lucy and Tracey took residents from our beachside community at Southbourne Beach Care Home - Avery Collection to the panto..... oh yes they did! It was a lovely evening and the show of Beauty and the Beast was fantastic, residents cheered along and booed the wicked witch. Residents, staff and visitors enjoyed a wonderful afternoon yesterday for your residents Christmas party, we had entertainment from the Lovely Clare Manners playing saxophone and Simon Woodley playing piano. We all sang along to Christmas carols, danced and ate the delicious food our kitchen team provided. And It wouldn't be a Christmas party without a glass of fizz in hand!

Yesterday we had a very special guest handing out presents to our friends at Tops Day Nurseries: Pokesdown. Residents looked in as the nursery children received their presents from Santa in our grotto. We also enjoyed party games, dancing and party food. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄

National Christmas Card Day is on December 9th each year.
Did you know that Sir Henry Cole, a member of the British civil service, created the modern concept of the Christmas card along with his artist friend, John Horsley, in 1843, as a means to encourage more people to use the new British postal system. Their first card was sold for one shilling. By the 1860s, the practice of sending Christmas cards was more or less in full swing in Britain thanks to the rise of the printing press.
