COVID-19 spreads easily all year round. It can still be very dangerous and even life threatening, particularly for older people and those with a weakened immune system.

Protection against COVID-19 (either from catching the virus or from a previous vaccination) can fade over time and the circulating strain of the virus can change, so if you are at higher risk of severe illness, it is important that you top up your protection.

Walking IS real exercise. Don’t let anyone tell you it isn't. A study found that walkers who cover the same mileage as runners enjoy similar health benefits. One reason is because walking works the same muscles as running, only the intensity and duration are different: https://bit.ly/LWDwaysofwalking

🔹Behind the scenes at Westbourne Medical Centre🔹

Our team at Westbourne Medical Centre recently welcomed Access Wellbeing Dorset for an educational presentation aimed at increasing awareness of the mental health and wellbeing support available across our local community.

Access Wellbeing is the new approach to community mental health and wellbeing support in Dorset. It is a partnership between the NHS and voluntary sector, working together with other organisations across the community.

Access Wellbeing includes three hubs Boscombe, Poole and in Weymouth, as well as drop-in spaces located in existing community settings across Dorset. These are staffed by friendly wellbeing coordinators who can take the time to listen, then help people to find the right support and advice.

Have you seen our new, easy‑to‑use Guide to Adult Social Care?

It's been shaped by local people to help make care and support easier to understand and plan for.

Over several months, members of one of our resident voice groups, who're pictured here, worked alongside council staff to co‑design a guide that feels clear, practical and genuinely useful.

The guide includes:
✅ clear explanations of Adult Social Care and your rights
✅ practical advice for living independently
✅ information on paying for care and financial assessments
✅ support for carers, mental health and wellbeing
✅ details on technology‑enabled care and local resources

📖 You can access the guide here:

NHS bowel cancer screening kits are offered to everyone aged between 50 and 74.

They can help find cancer early, before you even have any symptoms. And the earlier cancer is found, the easier it can be to treat.

When your kit arrives, put it by the loo. Don’t put it off.

Let someone else know they should send their kit back – especially as April is Bowel Cancer Awareness month.

🟦What the COVID-19 vaccine is for🟦

🔸COVID-19 vaccination is an important part of protecting yourself if you're at increased risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19.

🔹The COVID-19 vaccines are offered because viruses change and protection fades over time. It's important to top up your protection if you're eligible.

Getting the COVID-19 vaccine can:
🔸help reduce your risk of getting severe symptoms
🔸help you recover more quickly if you catch COVID-19
🔸help reduce your risk of having to go to hospital or dying from COVID-19
protect against different types of COVID-19 virus
