I'm in the final stages of training for my Restore Scar Therapy Qualification and will soon be offering scar massage in addition to the treatments I currently provide. You may not have heard of this treatment before and may wonder why it warrants its own training and qualification.
When surgery or injury damages your skin, muscles, fascia, blood vessels and nerves, your body repairs itself in the best way it can, but it's very different to how tissue initially grows without trauma. The scar tissue joins everything back together but it can often cause tension, limited mobility, pain and numbness usually due to internal adhesions to muscles, organs and often other nearby scar tissue. Plus the scar itself may be tight, dipped and considered unsightly, all of which can be improved with dedicated massage treatments.
If you're interested to find out how scar massage therapy can address this, or you know someone who may be affected by it, you can read more here. There is also some information on how to care for your scar in the early stages post-surgery:
Scar therapy is a treatment that works to improve restrictions, pain and healing of scars and their surrounding tissues. Treatments can usually begin eight weeks post-surgery/trauma but are also extremely effective on more mature scars of many years.
