Great open day at Gladys Court on Wednesday. Managed to have my photo taken with the Mayor as well as meet the friendly local residents. Linda took the regular Safe & Sound chair based exercise class early on in the day which is always well enjoyed. Ben Fidler & Jo Nott were working hard in the background, making sure everything ran smoothly (as they always do). Lots of interesting stalls and people, along with the sunny weather. What more could you want.

Long term consistancy beats short term intensity. Half an hour each day, is better than 3 hours at the weekend for a long term outcome. To have any meaningful impact, you must be consistant. Whether it is diet, fitness, or skills, you become what to do all the time, not what you do once a week. So my advice to those starting on their journey is to start small and build up by adding a little more each time, but never giving up - it is those constant little things that peice together to create the big jigsaw puzzle. Both body and mind take time to adapt, but neither will, if there is no positive constant stimulous. Be patient, be persistant. Namaste

Today I want to talk about Balance.
The secret to acheivement is consistancy.
With this in mind I have a tip/hack foryou to improve and keep your balance into old age.
When you put your socks on in the morning, DON'T sit down. Balance on one foot and put your sock on without putting the other foot onto the ground 🙂. At night do the same to take them off. Try not to rush. When you get good at it try it in the dark or with your eyes shut. 😁😁
Do this every day or alternate it with a stretch - straighten your legs and put your socks on and remove them at night without bending the knees 🙂.
This adds a minimal time to your daily routine but has so many benefits.
Namaste

Oxygen – your breath of life.
(pic is an old one of me practicing my Chi Gung)
I saw a post the other day that was advertising the benefits of a mechanical device that you hold in your mouth whilst you train, which basically restricts the amount of oxygen you can breathe in and out. The device has been manufactured to help your respiratory system work harder and more efficiently, to improve your lungs and the transfer of oxygen to the blood as you work.
Now this is not a bad thing as the better your respiratory system works the more oxygen gets to your muscles and the more efficiently they can work. The down side to this is cost, at between £30 to £60+ it is very expensive, (as well as making you dependant on an external bit of plastic to achieve the benefits)
If you would like the same benefits without the cost please read on.
I have used this for years with clients. The secret is to use your nose to breathe. (Mouth – big airway / nose – smaller airway). You set your target ahead of you, Take a deep breathe, close your mouth, breathe out through your nose and step forwards into your run (or cycle or walk or whatever your given task).
You cannot open your mouth again until you reach your target. You can slow down, - right down (you can even stop for a while) but you can’t open your mouth! This is all about mind and body control. Getting used to working with the restricted air flow. Not only will you end up with a better more efficient respiratory system, but you will also end up with better focus, stronger mind and determination and greater connection to your body. All done without paying loads of money. Done regularly you will improve, for free, gradually getting faster and back to your performance done breathing through the mouth.
As a footnote, the Apache Indian warriors used to run with a mouth full of water. They were revered for their outstanding cardio capabilities and amazing fighting and hunting skills. Be a warrior, save your pennies and treat yourself or your partner instead.
This is just one of many breathing exercises you can learn about, that will help you on your journey.
Please like, share, follow, comment etc
Namaste
(I don’t recommend you run or do any activity with water or anything else in your mouth in case you inadvertently inhale it, just as you shouldn’t be eating or chewing gum whilst training)
