I weighed and measured myself today.

I wrote it down so I had the information and went about my day. No fretting, no shame, no guilt nothing.

Because I know I am much more than my weight. I am a first class Health Scientist, a Health Coach, a mum, a wife, a loyal friend, a business owner - you get my drift.

Yet when I am coaching women, the one thing I frequently hear when I get to know someone is that they define themselves as overweight, obese.

It saddens me.

I used to be like that too. My life was consumed by my size. As a result everything suffered. In my quest to be slim, my other roles suffered. I was a grumpier wife, a miserable mum - roles that are important to be and the ones I loved suffered. I was allowing myself to be defined by my weight, by a number and then punishing myself that i was not the weight i wanted to be so i allowed it to consume me. It was miserable.

I was forgetting who i was, I had lost myself.

But I am living proof you can free yourself from all of this.

Wishing you a year of happiness and health for 2026.

If I can show you one thing this year it will to understand the importance of good health.

2025 has personally shown me one heck of a lot of lessons about the importance of good health and I for one will never take it for granted again!

We are what we eat, quite literally. We are a result of our actions on inaction. Everything has a consequence.

Our bodies tell us what they need. Its just whether we are listening to them or not!

Don't make 2026 the year you will do everything, only to burn out a few weeks in.

Instead be gentle on yourself. Prioritise tiny things and make those a habit first.

Start with drinking some water first thing in the morning.

Start just going to the gym once a week for a month.

Start just listening to your hunger levels.

Building slowly but with a solid foundation for strong results.

1. Forgive yourself if you overeat, everone overeats at Christmas - let go of the guilt!

2. Do not immediately jump on the scales after Christmas. We will have naturally have held on to more water if we've consumed more carbs so the number will not be accurate.

3. Don't allow one over-indulgent meal to write off an entire day, just aim for the next meal to be more nutritious.

Losing weight whilst not understanding why you consistently self-sabotage, or emotionally eat is like getting into a car without a steering wheel.

Think about it for a minute.....

You wouldn't start up a car without any idea of the direction you are taking would you?

Yet in January this year thousands and thousands of women will follow restrictive diets that make them miserable as they endeavour to lose weight. Weight lost they will go back to their old ways no doubt, gain weight again and the cycle begins.

Isn't it about time we stopped dancing around all these ideas and cut to the chase and start to learn what the heck is going on in our heads that affects what we eat?

So we can start driving with the steering wheel again????

If you don't want to end up like this guy here, keep moving! OK a bit cheeky, but inactivity makes you seize up, causes more pain and then you don't want to move, so the pain gets worse, its a vicious circle.

No matter how little, how small, movement is everything. Work with what you can do and start there.

As a girl who grew up in a very inactive family, I move more now than when I was younger.

Exercise just wasn't a thing as I grew up. I just didn't find my thing I was good at.

And that had its consequences. Not just with my body, but my weight.
