Dry cupping offers numerous benefits, particularly when used to complement and enhance a sports massage. While a variety of additional effects have been reported—some supported by evidence and others more anecdotal—certain outcomes are well established. These include increased range of motion and flexibility, reduced muscular tension, and the effective loosening of muscles and connective tissues. I’ll be offering dry cupping as an optional addition for clients who feel they may benefit from incorporating this technique into their treatment.

The undeniable benefits of dry cupping include its ability to support lymphatic drainage and help reduce swelling following injury. It also allows for a more diverse approach to soft-fascia and tissue treatment, particularly in areas where traditional pressure techniques may not be suitable—such as over the scapula, ribs, or femur. It works with the fascia and connective tissues in a unique way, promoting a positive and adaptive response within the body.

A big shout-out to Liam for his excellence and guidance — without which I wouldn’t have the skills or confidence to practise this valuable technique.

The Thomas Test reveals tightness in the hip flexor muscles. In this case, both the psoas and re**us femoris muscles are restricted.
The purpose is to evaluate the flexibility and length of the hip flexor muscles and to identify potential conditions such as hip flexion contracture, psoas syndrome, or iliotibial band (ITB) tightness.

Sports massage can be very effective in helping to relieve tightness and improve function in the right hip flexors (primarily the psoas major, iliacus, and re**us femoris). Sports massage helps by Reducing Muscle Tension and Tone.

hip extension or hip flexor tightness may contribute to or be associated with:
• Psoas syndrome
• Patellofemoral pain syndrome
