✨💐 Rose petal water tray 💐✨

With pink water, real roses, petals and a variety of tools and utensils to explore - the children spent time carefully transferring water between containers, some mixing “potions” and others completely focused on mastering the pipettes / syringes - learning just when to squeeze or pull to make the water move!

This kind of sensory play offers so much more than meets the eye.
It supports:
✋ Fine motor skills: as little hands squeeze pipettes, grip scoops and pour steadily
👀 Hand-eye coordination: aiming, filling and emptying different containers
🧐 Problem solving: “why won’t it suck up?” “how full can I make it?”
💬 Language development: sharing ideas, describing what they’re doing and imaginative “potion making”
😌 Emotional regulation: through calming, repetitive actions like pouring and transferring
❤️ Social learning: children watching each other closely and trying new skills they see others using - with older children naturally modelling, demonstrating and sharing what they’ve discovered

…to name just a few!

➡️ Swipe to the end to see one little one who decided the best way to explore was to be fully immersed in her experience 🥰✨

🐸 Make ‘frogspawn’ with me! 🐸

A quick step-by-step of this sensory tray:
Chia seeds ✅
Water ✅
Green food colouring ✅
Lily pads & frogs ✅
Tools to explore with ✅
(Optional: cornflour for extra texture)

It was an absolute favourite! 💚
Yes, the chia seeds can end up everywhere - but this kind of play is so valuable.
It supports fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, early science exploration, understanding cause & effect and encourages imaginative, open-ended play.

Sometimes the mess really is where the magic (and learning!) happens ✨

🐥 Easter Playdough 🐥

With a few open-ended resources and some soft yellow playdough, the play opportunities were truly limitless!

Feathers became nests, chicks were moulded and given wings, tiny footprints were left, cutters transformed the dough and their little imaginations led the way 🐣✨

As they pinched, rolled, pressed and moulded, they were also developing their fine motor skills - strengthening little hands for everyday tasks like dressing, feeding themselves and using tools, as well as supporting early writing skills ✍️

There’s no right or wrong with an open-ended tray full of resources and tools - just pure exploring, creating and discovering at their own pace! 🌟
