Most people assume women care more about romance.
But research shows men may actually depend more on their romantic relationships for emotional well-being.
Men often expect to gain more from being partnered than women do, are less likely to end relationships, and feel breakups more intensely.
From an early age, boys are discouraged from showing vulnerability.
They grow up with less emotional language and fewer safe spaces to express sadness or fear.
By adulthood:
➡ Women often have broader emotional support networks.
➡ Men often rely heavily (sometimes only) on their partner.
It’s not “neediness,” but a mix of biology and conditioning. When all emotional needs rest on one relationship, the nervous system becomes more reactive to stress.
That can mean:
➡ Stronger emotional swings.
➡ Trouble self-regulating after conflict.
➡ Greater anxiety about stability.
Somatic work helps by building capacity so men (and couples) can:
1️⃣ Express emotions without shutting down.
2️⃣ Co-regulate with tools like paired breathing or grounding touch.
3️⃣ Build resilience inside and outside the relationship.
If this resonates, save it or share it with someone who might connect to this.
