Here at Stow Physio, we are extremely grateful that we have been able to stay open and busy throughout this difficult lockdown. Our incredible team of physios have been working hard to ensure the safety of our patients as they continue to treat, which brings us to our search for a new physio to add to our team. If you or someone you know is interested in joining our wonderful team of Physios here at Stow Physio, please send us an email at: info@stowphysio.com we would love to hear from you.

We are delighted to be able to confirm that the government and our governing body have given us the go ahead to remain open throughout this lockdown. We already have stringent measures in place to keep you and us safe and are constantly updating and refining these plans as needed.

We obviously still have to be mindful of risk and if you or any members of your household are in a vulnerable category then you may want to discuss whether it is appropriate for you to see us - so any queries please do call us on 01451 822660 or email us on info@stowphysio.com.

Alternatively you could make use of our video appointment to assess and advise you remotely.

Its been a busy and exciting couple of weeks.....and I am delighted to announce the we are now fully OPEN!

We have all the measures in place to keep you and us as safe as possible and after a few days of working, the new normal is beginning to feel....'normal'! It is such a relief to discover that under the masks and gowns we are still physios who can treat you just as well as we did before.

If you would like to book an appointment either face to face or via our new fully integrated video appointment system then please do go to our website, drop us an email or give us a call....we are looking forward to seeing you!

We are very excited to announce, that subject to the government authorising the next stage of easing of the lock down on May 31st, we will be opening the clinic again from Monday 1st June.

As with much of life at the moment things will have to be slightly different. We will look different when we greet you wearing our PPE, we will not be able to welcome you into the office for a friendly chat and we will have to ask you to complete some paperwork in order to attend, and the clinic may well smell like a distillery as everything will have been cleaned before your arrival…….but behind all of this we are all the same! We are still here to offer you the highest standard of physiotherapy treatment, to listen to exactly what you feel your difficulties are and the work with you to improve things. We can still offer hands on treatment when required, but are also now equipped to offer fully integrated video consultations if you would prefer.

To make an appointment please do call the clinic on 01451 822660. You may well get the answerphone but please leave us a message and we will call you back. Alternatively you can book online via our website www.stowphysio.com

Looking forward to this new chapter in the life of Stow Physio!

Message from Lucy and the Stow Physio team:

"Following the government's announcement this week, and guidance given to us by our professional body, the team at Stow Physio have been discussing how and when we feel it would be safe for us to open the clinic to you all again. We are desperate to get back working again as we understand many of you are in need of physio help at the moment. However we do have a duty of care to you all and ourselves to ensure that it is safe to do so.
It is obviously not possible to maintain any social distancing during treatment, and this is still one of the governments requirements of a work place, and we can get quite a high turnover of patients through the clinic in one day which also presents us with challenges. We need to be certain that we have a robust system in place to ensure the clinic is a safe environment for you to visit and that the risk to the physio is also controlled well.
Rest assured we are working hard to make sure all of this can be achieved and as soon as we feel able to we will open the doors again to you all.....hopefully very soon!
Please also be patient with us in understanding that whilst schools are still closed we also all have considerable child care issues to overcome in returning to work - again things we are actively trying to resolve!'

Using a Smartphone a lot at the moment? Feeling a bit achy in your neck or arm? Try these tips to avoid neck, arm and hand pain developing due to excessive smartphone use:

1) When using the phone raise it up so you don’t have to bend your head and neck downwards. This position puts a lot of excess strain on your neck joints and muscles between your neck and shoulders. Lifting the phone up to shoulder level means you can maintain a more neutral head and neck position (see posture photos in the comments)

2) Use both hands to support your smartphone and both thumbs to type. This shares the “load” between both hands and arms rather than relying on your dominant hand.

3) Take regular breaks from your smartphone.

4) Take some time each day to do some gentle neck, shoulder and arm stretches. Some examples can be found here from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy:

Hello 👋

Here are a few home working tips for those of us using a laptop or computer for prolonged periods:

1) Ensure you have regular breaks – every 20 minutes adjust your posture and every hour get up and take 5 minutes away from your workstation to avoid build up of muscle tension.

2) Set up your laptop so the top third of your screen is at eye level as you look at it. This will reduce neck and shoulder strain. Use books if required to raise it up.

3) Invest in a separate keyboard and mouse if you can afford it to reduce your risk of developing repetitive strain injuries in your wrist and hands.

4) Use your mouse and keyboard “actively”. In other words keep your hands floating over your keyboard rather than resting your wrists on it as you type. Use large shoulder movements to move the mouse rather than from your wrist. Again this is to reduce the risk of repetitive strain and carpal tunnel syndrome.

If you are experiencing problems and would like some advice please get in touch.

I am a Chartered Physiotherapist with ergonomic training and I assess people with existing muscle and joint conditions in their workplaces (including homeworkers).

Thank you
Charlotte

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM LUCY

We have taken the heart breaking decision to close Stow Physio for the foreseeable future. Whilst this is difficult it is without doubt the best thing we can do to help our village and the wider community fight the threat of Coronavirus.

Stow Physio has been open and serving the local community for over 30 years and it feels very strange to think we will not be doing so again for a while, however we have not gone away and are keen to continue to support you in any way we can.

For this reason we will be offering a free advice service to anyone locally with a physio related problem. Please do call 01451 822660 or email info@stowphysio.com and leave us a message, one of the team will check these regularly and get back to you.

We also have access to an online exercise platform which mean we can tailor make a rehab program for you and send you pictures or videos of exercises that may help you.

We will be back once this is all over but in the mean time take care of yourselves and those around you
