Today we have celebrated our lovley resident Irene's 101st birthday. Irene has spent the day with family along with our baby group who sung happy birthday to her. Followed by celebrations with all of the residents where she was presented with a beautiful cake made by our talented chef Amanda. Many happy returns Irene, we hope you have had a lovely day 🎂🎊

What an amazing day we have had here at Handsworth today. Due to illness over the festive holidays, a lot of our residents didn't get to enjoy the lovely things we had planned. So we decided to redo Christmas & New Years Eve in one day. We started off the festivities with Christmas dinner at lunch time where we were joined by local MP Connor Rand, followed by the Kings Speech. This led us into our New Years Eve celebrations with a performance from entertainer Joe Cockx who joined us in our New Years Eve countdown followed by a rendition of Auld Lang Syne, which took us nicely into our buffet tea.
We would like to thank all those involved in making the day run smoothly, from relatives and members of the community for donations of crackers and festive food to the local community champion from Asda donating mince pies.
A special thank you also goes to our kitchen staff who worked hard behind the scenes to make not only the Christmas dinner but the evening buffet, and our amazing team that worked together to make the day run smoothly

I'm not sure there is anything else to do on a wet and miserable Tuesday morning except make bright colourful chocolate. Using silicone moulds and brightly coloured melted chocolate we set to work with out sweet treats. It was interesting to see how each resident chose different colours and moulds with some even making lolly pops. It certainly brightened up our Tuesday morning 🍫

On Monday we joined together with the Samaritans to host 'Brew Monday', where residents, relatives and the local community came together to enjoy an afternoon social. We were joined by 2 volunteers from the Samaritans who delivered a talk on mental health along with carrying out word searches and colouring,i t was a very informative afternoon and i think everyone left feeling a bit more educated on the work the Samaritans doand how to be aware and spot signs of changes.

This morning we welcomed our intergenerational group Songs & Smiles back into the home after their Christmas break. The home was buzzing with noise as we said hello to new faces. We used different sensory props to carrry out actions to nursery rhymes as well as games of peek a boo. It was lovely to have them back in the home and we look forward to next weeks session.

With the weather being typical January weather we have been unable to get out in the community for some much needed fresh air. Instead we have spent the grey afternoons baking and making.
Yesterday to mark National Hot Tea Day, we spent the afternoon making a delicious
tea loaf using Early Grey infused fruit. This was enjoyed this afternoon with a warm drink.
Today we spent time manifesting spring and the bright colours it brings. We used toilet roll middles and hot glue to create some colourful spring birds. There was lots of laughter and encouragement from all who joined in.

Join us this coming monday as we open our doors for ‘Brew Monday’. With tea and coffee available along with a selection of cakes. We will also be hosting a talk on mental wellbeing with 2 volunteers from The Samaritans. We look forward to seeing you there 🍰
