☘️ Happy St Patrick's Day ☘️

To mark St Patrick's Day at Handsworth we enjoyed a day if Irish inspired fun.
We started off the morning with a baking activity. We worked together to make a delicious shamrock pie while listening to Irish folk songs.
In the afternoon a handful of residents took part in an artd and crafts session where we spent time creating our
own pots of gold.
To complete the Irish theme, residents enjoyed an Irish stew, prepared by our chef. Residents then enjoyed the shamrock pie for their desert.

💐 Happy Mother's Day 💐

Yesterday we celebrated all the wonderful ladies at Handsworth, with lots of laughter, music and special moments.

We started off our celebrations with a lovely afternoon tea which included scones and prosecco. Each residents (including the gentlemen) received a gift of chocolates. Following this we were joined by families who spent the afternoon dancing and singing along with performer Teresa, who sung all songs celebrating women.

This morning a handful of our residents got together to carry out a baking activity.
We followed a simple recipe to create delicious miniature banoffee pies.

At Handsworth activities involving food are more than just creating the dishes. It encourages conversations and a chance to reminisce. This activity also encourages movement along with coordination and the best part, is the delicious treats at the end of the session ☺️

There were lots of smiles and special moments yesterday as residents at Handsworth enjoyed a visit from Mobile Farm Cheshire to carry out a lovely animal therapy

Residents enjoyed spending time with special visitors such as Norman and Noodles the lambs and enjoyed cuddles with silkie chicks.
Animal therapy provides lots of benifits including reminiscence. It also improves mental and emotional health by lowering blood pressure and releasing calming hormones such as oxytocin.

Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of celebrating a very special milestone birthday for our wonderful Yvonne 🎉

Yvonne marked her 80th birthday surrounded by smiles, laughter and plenty of birthday cheer here at Handsworth.

Our talented chef prepared a beautiful homemade birthday cake especially for her, which was absolutely delicious and enjoyed by all 🎂✨

It was lovely to see Yvonne so happy throughout the day as we came together to celebrate 80 amazing years. We feel very privileged to have shared such a special occasion with her.

Our residents at Handsworth have been getting creative today during Arts and Crafts with Katarina 🎨✨

There was lots of colour, concentration and laughter as everyone enjoyed spending time together making beautiful pieces. Activities like arts and crafts are so important within the home. They help to support fine motor skills, encourage creativity, and provide a wonderful opportunity for social interaction.

Most importantly, they bring a real sense of achievement and pride. Seeing the smiles when residents finish their creations is always so special 💕

A big thank you to Katarina for making the session so enjoyable and meaningful for everyone.

Yesterday we celebrated a very special lady’s birthday here at the home 🎉💐

She was absolutely delighted with her beautiful flowers, chocolates and birthday card from everyone here. A big thank you from her to her son for the gorgeous cardigan, she looked so lovely in it and couldn’t stop admiring it! 💕

She truly had a wonderful day and her smile said it all… she was smiling from morning until night. Moments like these are so special and remind us why we love what we do.

'Xin Nian Kuai Le' Wishing you a joyful and happy new year.
Yesterday to mark Chinese New year and the Year of the Fire Horse, a handful of residents spent the afternoon making chinese dragons. We used cupcake cases to make the body of the dragon and other craft items such as pipe cleaner and tissue paper this was follwed by a delicious meal of chicken & sweetcorn noodle soup or Chinese chicken curry for their evening meal along with being gifted a money wallet with a lucky coin inside 🐉

A handful of our residents boarded a plane to enjoy a trip to warmer climates yesterday. The destination, Italy!
Using youtube we enjoyed a walking tour video around Italy stopping at famous landmarks, even enjoying a gondola ride through Venica. We sampled a range of Italian meats, cheese and drinks such as Aperol spritz and limoncello sprits. It was a lovely afternoon and we are looking forward to our next session of arm chair travel.
