Thanks to Active Family Chiropractic Clinic for having Jan from JMS First Aid Training on site yesterday to deliver their EFAW (Emergency First Aid at Work) course.

Training was carried out in their own workplace setting, giving the team the chance to learn and practise first aid in the environment they work in every day. This helps staff feel more confident in how to respond to incidents, treat patients safely, and make the best use of the equipment available to them on site.

On-site training is a great way to make first aid practical, relevant, and tailored to the needs of each workplace.

Well done to everyone who took part a fantastic group to teach!

Another big one delivered! 💪

Our combined EFAW & EPFA course was a great success, expertly led by Jan 👏 and delivered on-site at the client’s venue.

“Such a good course thank you so much. The best first aid course I have done as I feel it was explained really well & important parts repeated.”

“Jan was fabulous, she made it interesting and easy to ask questions. The day flew by! Would recommend to others. Excellent hands on too.”

“I have never enjoyed a first aid course as much as today, it was informative, fun (when appropriate) and engaging. I have learnt a lot today.

It’s always fantastic to see learners leave feeling confident, engaged, and ready to act in an emergency. We’re proud to provide training that’s practical, hands-on, and tailored to suit each workplace.

⚠️ Know the Signs of Meningitis – It Could Save a Life ⚠️

At JMS First Aid Training, we believe awareness saves lives. Meningitis can develop quickly, so recognising the symptoms early is extremely important.

🧠 Symptoms in Teenagers & Adults:
• High temperature (fever)
• Severe headache
• Stiff neck
• Sensitivity to light
• Nausea or vomiting
• Confusion or difficulty concentrating
• Drowsiness or difficulty waking
• Cold hands and feet, limb pain, pale or mottled skin
• Seizures (fits) in some cases

🚨 The Meningitis Rash
A red or purple rash that does not fade when pressed (the glass test) can be a sign of meningitis. However, not everyone develops a rash, so don’t wait for it before seeking medical help.

👶 Symptoms in Babies & Toddlers:
• High-pitched or unusual cry
• Floppy, unresponsive or very sleepy
• Refusing feeds
• Vomiting
• Bulging soft spot (fontanelle) on the head
• Pale, blotchy or mottled skin
• Cold hands and feet
• Stiff body or jerky movements

❗ What To Do
If you suspect meningitis, call 999 or go to A&E immediately. Early treatment is critical.

Learning to recognise serious illness is an important part of first aid. At JMS First Aid Training, we help people build the confidence to respond in emergencies.

🚨A Brilliant Day of First Aid Training!

Last week Jan delivered a Combined Emergency First Aid at Work & Paediatric First Aid course, and what a fantastic group it was!

From dealing with workplace emergencies to learning how to respond when babies and children need help, everyone got involved and really threw themselves into the practical scenarios. There was plenty of CPR practice, lots of bandaging, and a few laughs along the way too! 😄

Most importantly, everyone left with the confidence and skills to step in and help when it really matters.

A huge well done to everyone who attended you were brilliant! 👏

🚑 Could you help someone who suddenly collapsed?

If someone is unconscious but breathing normally, placing them in the recovery position can help keep them safe until emergency services arrive.

⚠️ When should you use the recovery position?
In line with UK first aid guidance, you should use it when someone:
✔ Is unresponsive
✔ Is breathing normally
✔ Needs help keeping their airway clear

❗ Why is it so important?
Putting someone on their side helps to:
✅ Keep their airway open
✅ Stop them choking on vomit, blood or saliva
✅ Allow fluids to drain away from the mouth

📞 Always remember:
1️⃣ Check for danger
2️⃣ Check if they respond
3️⃣ Check breathing
4️⃣ Call 999 or 112
5️⃣ Place them in the recovery position and keep checking their breathing until help arrives.

💡 Knowing what to do in those first few minutes could save a life.

Want to learn these vital skills properly?
JMS First Aid Training provides friendly, practical training to give you the confidence to act in an emergency.
