April 2023 Spring Booster Campaign
People aged 75 years and over and those who are immunosuppressed will soon be able to book their 2023 Spring Booster as the biggest and most successful vaccination programme in health service history enters a new phase.
Who can get one?
The committee has since advised that a spring booster dose should be offered to:
- Adults 75 and older (or will be 75 by 30th June 2023)
- Residents in care homes for older adults
- Individuals aged 5 years and over who are immunocompromised
People in these categories will benefit the most from a booster vaccination.
When?
The spring booster campaign will begin on 1st April 2023 for Residents of care homes and 17th April for the rest of the eligible cohorts including household patients, and you will be contacted when it is your turn.
Please do not contact your GP practice to ask about booking COVID vaccinations. You will be contacted by us directly.
There should be a gap of 3-6 months from any previous COVID vaccinations (first, second or other booster doses). If you have recently had COVID, it is advisable to wait four weeks before booking a booster (or 12 weeks for those under 18).
Please note that the booster campaign will only run until 30th June 2023, as will the offer of a first or second dose for those who have not yet had them.
How to book?
Birch Hill Vaccination team will be in touch directly to book your appointments for the spring booster campaign.
Why boost?
The latest data shows that nearly 9,000 people are currently in hospital with COVID. It's a reminder, should we need it, that COVID has not gone away.
The boosters are a precautionary measure for people who are most at risk of getting seriously ill.
Since the launch of the vaccine programme in 2020, more than 151 million doses have been given in the UK, saving tens of thousands of lives and keeping even more out of hospital.
