I am sorting venues for our Wednesday evening class during the summer holidays. This is the plan so far:

2nd August, Carnation Hall
9th August, TBA, possibly online
16th August, TBA, possibly online
23rd August, Charlotte Pratt Hall
30th August, Charlotte Pratt Hall.
Also, advance warning that there is no class on Friday 17th August as I’m having a cheeky weekend away.
I’ve just started reading the book, “The Untethered Soul '' by Michael A. Singer. The first chapter describes the voice inside your head as your room mate. We have the voice inside our head and then the one who witnesses that voice. Our true self is the witness.
He invites us to imagine this voice inside our head as a real person. Imagine sitting on the sofa watching TV with this person and hearing everything they say. How they change their mind, how they whitter on. He asks, would we be friends with this person in real life? Would we ask this person for advice? If you watch it objectively, he says, you will realise that most of what it says is meaningless. Most of the talking is just a waste of time and energy.
He says there is nothing more important to true growth than realising you are not the voice of your mind – you are the one who hears it. The one who hears it is always silent, this is the doorway to the depths of our being. Yoga is not really about getting fit (although it’s a great by product), it’s about the knowledge that will free us from the annoying inner room mate. Many of us are so used to the room mate that we don’t even realise our predicament.
He says, to reclaim our lives, we must stand firm in the seat of the witness and release the hold that the habitual mind has on us. Our will is stronger than the habit of listening to that voice. There is nothing we can’t do. Our will is supreme over all of this.
“This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night the day, though canst not then be false to any man”
- William Shakespeare
With much love
