Hello to you, my yoga friends,

Classes are running this Wednesday evening and Friday morning. Please do join us:

Wednesday, 7pm, Carnation Hall

Friday, 09.00am Carnation Hall.

If you would like to prebook any sessions the link is - https://bookwhen.com/irenesyoga

I am sorting venues for our Wednesday evening class during the summer holidays. This is the plan so far:

26th July, Carnation Hall

2nd August, Carnation Hall

9th August, TBA, possibly online

16th August, TBA, possibly online

23rd August, Charlotte Pratt Hall

30th August, Charlotte Pratt Hall.

Also, advance warning that there is no class on Friday 17th August as I’m having a cheeky weekend away.

I’ve just started reading the book, “The Untethered Soul '' by Michael A. Singer. The first chapter describes the voice inside your head as your room mate. We have the voice inside our head and then the one who witnesses that voice. Our true self is the witness.

He invites us to imagine this voice inside our head as a real person. Imagine sitting on the sofa watching TV with this person and hearing everything they say. How they change their mind, how they whitter on. He asks, would we be friends with this person in real life? Would we ask this person for advice? If you watch it objectively, he says, you will realise that most of what it says is meaningless. Most of the talking is just a waste of time and energy.

He says there is nothing more important to true growth than realising you are not the voice of your mind – you are the one who hears it. The one who hears it is always silent, this is the doorway to the depths of our being. Yoga is not really about getting fit (although it’s a great by product), it’s about the knowledge that will free us from the annoying inner room mate. Many of us are so used to the room mate that we don’t even realise our predicament.

He says, to reclaim our lives, we must stand firm in the seat of the witness and release the hold that the habitual mind has on us. Our will is stronger than the habit of listening to that voice. There is nothing we can’t do. Our will is supreme over all of this.

“This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night the day, though canst not then be false to any man”

- William Shakespeare

With much love

Exercise better than relying on painkillers to improve quality of life long term, says guidance

Hello to you, my yoga friends,

There is a normal schedule of classes next week:
Monday 09:30 Back to Bullbrook Community Centre
Monday 1pm, Chair Yoga, Bullbrook Community Centre
Wednesday, 19:00 Winkfield St Mary’s School.
Friday, 09.00, Carnation Hall.
All available in person or via Zoom.

I listened to a podcast with Laura Green (who I did my yoga teacher training with) and Nicola Humber last week. Nicola is a coach, hypnotherapist, counsellor and author of three books; Heal Your Inner Good Girl, Unbound and Unbound Writing. She spoke about finding our ‘fullest and freest expressions of ourselves’. About healing our childhood wounds of needing to fit in, about not allowing ourselves to be freely expressed and about how powerful it is to allow ourselves to be who we are. To be unbound. This really resonated with me and translates beautifully to a yoga practice that is open and expansive, creative and strong.

Here are some of the patterns that she mentioned that stops us expressing ourselves fully:
• Busyness, feeling that we always need to be productive
• Sense of service. Needing to be professional, a perfectionist
• Not being able to say no
• To be a people pleaser, travelling a path of approval
• Bound by stories we tell ourselves
• Bound by a role that we’ve adopted
• Bound by ‘shoulds’ and ‘musts’ and ‘ought tos’

The definition of ‘unbound’ is not bound or tied up. Not controlled or influenced by something, not having a cover or binding.

The unbound self – the you who is limitless, free, the fullest expression of who you were born to be. It’s powerful stuff! I have bought her book ‘Unbound’ and will weave the themes around future classes. Join if you dare! 😊
