Tomorrow, Sunday 7 September at 3pm there will be a national test of the Emergency Alerts service. These alerts are designed to notify you if there is a danger to life nearby.
Some military veterans or those living with PTSD may find the alerts trigger upsetting.
On iPhones and Android phones:
To opt out:
👉Search your settings for ‘emergency alerts’.
👉Turn off ‘severe alerts’ and ‘extreme alerts’.
If you or someone you know find the alerts distressing on Sunday, seek support:
🔹Speak to a friend or relative you trust
🔹Call a helpline trained to listen without judgement e.g. Samaritans on 116 123
🔹Call NHS 111 to get advice on your options for urgent mental health treatment and support
