🌟 The 5 Koshas
Unlimited potential
🧘♀️ One of my greatest loves on the Dru Yoga course is the study of the 5 ‘koshas’ - or layers of our being.
🔆 These are:
✅ physical
✅ pranic (energy)
✅ mind-emotion
✅ wisdom
✅ innate joy
💡 If you envisage the well-known metaphor of a lamp with 5 shades around it, the shade with the brightest light passing through is that closest to the bulb. Each shade thereafter receives and passes on the light at a reduced intensity.
💫 Similarly, our koshas exhibit a radiance which may become reduced as we move from the innermost level of innate joy through the rest of our layers to the physical body.
💪 As a result, we may feel heaviest in our body through a lack of physical energy, or perhaps in our emotions through feelings of despair, anxiety, annoyance, or resistance.
🌟 The good news is there is a way of keeping our light strong at each layer so that we experience energy, enthusiasm, and even elation!
🧘♂️ Using yogic practices, we can affect each layer and clear any blockages. What practices best work for you? (Please add your answers in the comments section).
🌌 Once we learn to manage our Koshic experience, the boundaries of our mind expand and - as Patanjali said beautifully - we find ourselves in a new world with endless possibilities.
🌬️ Take a few minutes now to appreciate your body, be aware of your breath, and settle any thoughts or feelings in you. Let life force flow through you and visualize yourself as a universal being with unbounded potential. Notice how this makes you feel and think....
🎁 Each kosha holds a gift which is unraveled by our practice and enables us to come home to our real potential.
