For self care day , it’s a good time to think about your mental and physical wellbeing. With everyone being so busy all the time with everyday life, it can be easy to sometimes not make enough time for yourself and it is so important to do so .

If you are feeling stressed or like there is too much to do then maybe take a break, get outside in nature and tune into the present and what’s around you. Mindfulness is good , being fully focused on the things you see or hear. It’s also good to take a digital break.

Gentle exercise, eating well, staying hydrated and having good sleep are all good forms of self care. Relaxation and recharging are also beneficial, listening to a relaxation or just sitting reading a book. Whatever works for you, it’s important to prioritise your health, physical and mental.

Today being National Self care day brings awareness to self care but it is something that needs to be everyday , or at least often.

During this hot weather I wanted to post out a couple of simple cooling breath techniques-

Sitali and Sitkari Breath: Cooling breath work

What is Pranayama?
Pranayama is a yogic practice focused on breath regulation and control. Its aim is to influence the flow of prana (life force or energy) within the body and mind. It involves specific breathing techniques to improve physical and mental well-being.

Prana: In yogic philosophy, prana is the vital life force that animates the body and mind.
Ayama: This refers to the control, extension, or regulation of prana.
Breath Regulation:
Pranayama techniques involve various methods of inhaling, exhaling, and holding the breath to influence the flow of prana.

Sitali Pranayama/ Cooling breath
This involves inhaling through a curled tongue (or, if unable to curl the tongue, through the teeth) and exhaling through the nose. It is believed to have a cooling effect on the body and mind, making it beneficial for managing stress, anxiety, and hot flushes.
How to practice Sitali Pranayama:

Find a comfortable seated position: Sit with your back straight and your hands resting gently on your knees.
Curl your tongue: Stick out your tongue and try to curl the sides inward, creating a tube-like shape. If you can't curl your tongue, you can also try inhaling through your teeth by slightly parting them.
Inhale through the tongue: Breathe in slowly and deeply through the curled tongue or through the teeth, feeling the cool air pass over the tongue.
Exhale through the nose: Gently close your mouth and exhale slowly and completely through your nostrils.
Repeat: Continue this process for 5-10 minutes or as desired.

Sitkari -
Sometimes known as hissing teeth breath, is a type of pranayama where you inhale with your mouth open, creating a hissing sound as air passes over your tongue, and exhale through your nose.

Steps for Sitkari Pranayama:
Find a comfortable seated position: Sit with your spine straight, eyes closed, and focus on your breath.
Position your tongue and teeth: Gently part your lips, press your upper and lower teeth together, and slightly extend your tongue so it's touching your front teeth.
Inhale: Draw air in through the gap between your teeth with a hissing sound. Focus on the cooling sensation in your mouth.
Exhale: Close your mouth and exhale slowly through your nose.
Repeat: Continue this process for up to 20 repetitions as desired

The Full Buck Moon in Capricorn will be in the sky tonight. Some believe that this Full Moon reminds us to connect with ourselves profoundly, maybe by taking a stance that empowers us to break out of our, out of date patterns and relationships that aren't fulfilling us.
Possibly taking a moment away from things to unwind and to focus on ourselves and reflect on
things that are happening now.

A Full Moon occurs when the sun and the moon oppose each other, with the Earth between them. The sun's reflection bouncing off the Earth and onto the moon illuminates the sky.
