October is menopause awareness month and I wanted to write a little bit about my own personal journey navigating this stage of my life.
I first started experiencing signs of the peri menopause a decade ago, just at the time when we were on the cusp of a new awareness and support from the medical profession.
From my personal experience , I found it easy to find information and help from my GP and have had regular reviews over the last 10 years. I know this isn’t something experienced by every women seeking help, but if you are struggling to find the right route for you, please do persist in seeking medical guidance.
However, this post is about the positive sides of menopause. ✨✨✨ All too often, the focus is on the impactful side effects , management and how ‘to get through it all’
Over the last 10 years I have experienced many of the common problems associated with menopause, particularly how the drop in oestrogen has impacted my skeletal system leading to advanced osteoarthritis. And wow! You could cook an egg on my skin at nighttime 🥵
Now, in full menopause I have learnt to rejoice in some of the new experiences and changes both physically and mentally.
Just like the changing seasons of summer to autumn, I feel the vibrant beauty of change. It has given me a brand new confidence ( yes, you do get over that crippling anxiety of perimenopause) I take on new challenges and care less for others judgement, indeed, I also judge others less. I feel wise and empowered! I look after my health and regard self care as an important aspect to my wellbeing. No guilt, no shame.. just glorious in the knowledge that I am a menopausal woman!
