The Serola sacroiliac belt - in our opinion the best belt for providing stability around the hips and pelvis when it's needed.

Particularly helpful during pregnancy to support a rapidly adapting pelvis, it is also useful for sacroiliac strains, often related to hypermobility.

Best used alongside stabilising strengthwork ✔️

*Swipe for possible symptoms and tips on managing them -->*

Francesca will be sharing her advice and personal experience of managing hypermobility during pregnancy.

Over the next few weeks, she will share which tools and home exercises have been helping manage pain and instability.

Hypermobility is an often overlooked condition that can make daily life more uncomfortable and tiring, especially for those suffering with conditions like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Pregnancy hormones increase joint and tissue laxity which coupled with increased physical and mechanical demands can make for an uncomfortable pregnancy. Help is available are we are here to help you manage pain and advise on safe exercises.

Always consult your doctor or midwife if you are worried about pain or are suffering with severe fatigue, headaches, breathlessness, dizziness or any other new symptoms. Midwives are excellent and would always rather you checked rather than ignoring symptoms.

One of the most important things about holidays is to factor in stopping and relaxing time - reading a good book, siestas or watching the world go by are all great ways of winding down and resetting the nervous system. This is much easier if you are on a beach holiday rather than sightseeing or activity holidays - which are great, but just make sure you don’t come home more tired than when you went out!!

It's the summer holidays and a perfect time for your teen to focus on stretching and mobility work before getting back into full swing with sports in September.

Growing pains are a common experience for teenagers; particularly the sporty ones and tall ones!

Essentially what happens is the bones grow quicker than the muscles, if the muscles are already a bit tight from playing lots of sports (and maybe not stretching much!) then they can feel tight and uncomfortable and even pull on their attachment points into the bones.

We are able to assess and find out which muscles in particular need some help and we can provide guidance and advice to help get teens pain free.

Book online, call or DM us for more info!

There are a few tablets that I never go on holiday without - Piriton, Paracetamol and Ibuprofen. Obviously if you are on prescribed medication from the G.P then you must remember these including your HRT.

PIRITON - These are antihistamines and are really important in helping an allergic reaction, calming insect bites, stings and hay fever . If you have a known serious allergy then you may require a special prescribed adrenaline preloaded auto injector pen such as a EpiPen . Allergic reactions can be fatal, so be prepared.

Note Piriton can make you feel drowsy.

PARACETAMOL & IBUPROFEN - These are both pain relieving drugs and are used frequently in musculoskeletal pain such as back and neck pain. Ibuprofen is also an anti inflammatory so is good for sudden bad back or neck pain, especially if your’e experiencing any pins and needles or pain in your extremities.

Note - take Ibuprofen with food as it can irritate your stomach. Consult your G.P if you are taking it for more than a few weeks or it is proving an irritant.
- Individuals with certain medical conditions or that are taking specific drugs should avoid Ibuprofen/ paracetamol. This should be made clear to you by your doctor .
- If buying Ibuprofen abroad it is often double the dose - 400mg rather than 200mg per tablet. So only take one tablet 3 x a day, not two!

If your musculoskeletal pain continues on your return we are here to get you out of pain and off medication. Long term use of meds have detrimental side effects.

A too firm mattress is a problem I have encountered many times over the years, causing restless nights from back pain. Really not what you need when you are on holiday and trying to catch up on sleep! The problem is that there is no give for your shoulders or hips and therefore your back muscles and ligaments are over stretched when you lie on your side. Try finding a spare duvet or bed spread - often tucked away in a cupboard - and put it on top of the mattress, but under the bottom sheet. It won’t feel quite like your own bed, but it should help you get your 💤’s.

Try to keep active when you are on holiday, your joints will thank you for it!
This may not be the same form of exercise as when you are at home, but that doesn’t matter - any mobilisation/stretching activity will help. Especially after travelling, coping with different beds or lounging around eating and drinking too much!

Try one of these :
- Swimming - great for mobilisation and cooling off. Exercise in shallow water is also good for the non swimmers.
- Paddle boarding - fantastic for strength and balance and a lot of fun, but be prepared to get wet!
- Stretching/ yoga - find a good view, a cool place and a towel and reconnect with your body and breathing. Brilliant for body and mind/ vagal tone etc. Plenty of u.tube links to follow although our wild Kenyan elephant interestingly stretched on instinct !
- Pack your Thera Band from your gym or Pilates work outs and build your strength and core. Doesn’t take up much space and provides a mobile gym for those that are not staying in hotels.
- Walking or hiking is a great way to see your new surroundings and keep fit at the same time.
- Use that trusty tennis ball to release body tension and massage tired feet.

Have a go. I promise you will feel better for it, but do keep hydrated and keep to your usual limits.

❤️
