Was discussing this book and the concept of ‘Let them’ with a patient who came into clinic today angry because she had not been listened to/ taken seriously by a health professional. It affected her whole body regarding tension and a feeling of sadness and promoted a good discussion, so thought I would share.

‘The Let Them Theory’ is a good simple read with an easy to put into practice tool that helps you to save your energy trying to control people/ situations that you can’t change. Saying ‘Let them’ do that/have that opinion etc helps you to stand back and not have such an emotional response. This means that you don’t immediately enter into ‘fright, fight and flight’ mode which is an unnecessary, tiring and often damaging response to have on a regular basis.

In doing this you are not giving your power away but regaining it, as it gives a chance to decide how you will manage the situation in a calm and thought out way. It often, according to Mel Robbins, the author, allows better relationships to be formed and you and the people close to you to be happier. The fastest way to take control of your life is to stop trying to control other people and focus on what you can control - yourself.

Food for thought!

Skiing can be tough on the body. Help prevent injury by having a good stretch before you start. I also use that trusty tennis ball to massage my glutes daily - works a treat! Good to see that I practice what I preach - at least some of the time!

We are really lucky to have Dorota, a very experienced Cranial Osteopath on board at The Monkton Farleigh Osteopathic Practice. Dorota has a particular interest in Paediatric Osteopathy.

Cranial Osteopathy is an extremely gentle but profoundly effective form of treatment. The Osteopath’s highly trained sense of touch is used to identify and unwind strain patterns and correct limitations of tissue mobility, not only in and around the joints of the skull, but throughout the body. A great example of this is treating babies after their journey through the birth canal.

Cranial Osteopathy is a very safe and relaxing method of treatment for the whole body. This gentle approach is suitable for people of all ages, especially babies, children and the elderly, but is also appropriate for many patients in conjunction with more structural techniques. We often choose to use these cranial techniques if your body is under particular stress from mental or physical trauma/ pain, if you have experienced a bad impact to your head or spine or if the injury you are presenting with is slow to recover. It is a subtle and very useful way in to accessing and settling down the nervous system, which sometimes needs to be achieved before structural techniques can be fully effective.

Call us for more information or book an appointment with Dorota online now whilst she still has appointments before Christmas. Tel : 0779 1376 254, ba15osteopaths.co.uk

Thigh loop exercises for hip stability:

Feet parallel for the first one then drop the loop down to the lower leg and turn the feet in for the second one.

Bonus points for tucking in the core! When pregnant, it's useful to think of your abs 'hugging' your baby, aww.
