I love sitting on that bench and listening to nature.

Yesterday I arrived back here in Wiltshire - my chosen home for many years - after having had a beautiful, but also very intense week with my German family.

Going for walks with our dog, Daisy, and spending time in nature helps me to ground, digest and integrate the challenges and beauty life brings and to arrive back home physically, mentally and emotionally.

How do you take care of yourself?

Receiving a Shiatsu session may help you feel nourished, deeply listened to, and able to return back home.

It is received through loose, comfortable clothing lying on a padded mat or sitting in a chair.

Shiatsu incorporates gentle stretches, joint mobilisation and pressure on specific points and meridians to treat deeply into the whole energy of the body.

Would you like to start your week with a deeply nourishing Shiatsu treatment?

There are 2 slots available in Bradford on Avon tomorrow afternoon.
(A 50-mins session costs £50.) –

WATSU is the abbreviation for “Water Shiatsu”.

In 1980 Harold Dull, the initiator of this method, floated another person in the hot springs of Northern California.
In the water, he applied the stretches and principles of land-based Zen Shiatsu that he had learnt years earlier in Japan.

H. Dull dedicated his life to the creative exploration, development and fine-tuning of this beautiful heart-centred aquatic bodywork, called WATSU.
In 2019 he died peacefully at his home in Berkley, California, but his legacy will continue.

Nowadays there are Watsu instructors and practitioners in many different countries, which means that Watsu will continue to evolve.

Receiving a Watsu session can be a deep experience that affects us on all levels of our being (the emotional, the psychological and the spiritual, as well as on the physical).

Throughout the session your back and neck are well supported, your nose stays out of the water at all times and you are being moved, rocked and stretched in a dance-like flow.

The dance between liberating movements and moments of stillness combined with a nurturing touch of the practitioner and the softness and warmth of the water may allow accumulated somatic and emotional pain to release itself. It also may renew a sense of connectedness.

Here are some comments from people, who have experienced Watsu:
“Free-flowing in space”
“Nurturing and healing”
“Pain Free”
“Safe”
“Back to the womb”

Waba (Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Association), which was formed in 1993, oversees aquatic bodywork training and certification programmes and their ethical application. It also lists Watsu training courses and Watsu Practitioners here in the UK and other countries.

Red/sore eyes, a runny nose and an itchy throat?

Shiatsu can help to alleviate hay fever symptoms by focusing on the Triple Heater (TH) meridian, and by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system to reduce immune system overreaction.

The TH meridian starts at the ring finger, it runs along the outside of the arm, across the top of the shoulder and the side of the neck. It follows the border of the ear and it finishes at the outer eyebrow.

In Zen Shiatsu the TH meridian oversees the body’s adaption to environmental stress and emotional boundaries.
It governs defensive energy, which acts as a shield, protecting the body’s immune system.

An overactive TH meridian could be linked to immune system hypersensitivity and allergic reactions, including a runny nose, an itchy throat and red/sore eyes.

Do you know which kind of pollen aggravate your symptoms?
For example, today birch pollen is high in Bradford on Avon and surrounding area.
Be gentle with yourself, Ingrid

Red/itchy eyes, runny noses and antihistamine fatigue. Hay fever has arrived!

Here are some ways to take care of yourself in hay fever times:

Choose the things that feel good to you and remember there are also holistic forms of bodywork, like SHIATSU, to support your system whilst it is under pressure.

Five Self-Care Tips:

1. Hay fever can make you feel tired, whether you take medication or not. So make sure you get plenty of sleep.

2. Keep windows closed during peak pollen times (they are usually highest on warm sunny days in the morning and again in the evening) and take your walk /outdoor exercise when pollen count is low.

3. Rinse your eyes in cool water.

4. Integrate a mindful breathing exercise in your daily routine as like most things, hay fever is worse when we are stressed.

5. Drink nettle tea.
It supports your respiratory system with its natural antihistamine and anti-inflammatory properties and it is cooling.

Stinging nettle is a fantastic herb that you easily can forage on your daily walk (just a few leaves) or grow yourself to support hay fever symptoms.

Pick fresh, young leaves (wear gloves!) rinse, and steep one tablespoon per cup in hot water for 10-15 minutes.
ENJOY your herbal infusion, Ingrid

Can’t feel the buzz?

It’s a common, yet frustrating experience to feel tired and uninspired while nature is in bloom, filled with renewal and creative energy.

In the 5 Elements theory in oriental philosophy, on which Shiatsu draws on, the Wood Element governs spring time growth, Liver and Gall Bladder function and upward movement.

If wood energy is stuck, you may feel physically heavy, mentally indecisive, or emotionally frustrated / irritable.

The wood element needs movement to thrive.
Engaging in gentle exercise, such as stretching, walking and tai chi helps to release stagnant energy.

Receiving a Shiatsu treatment can also help to revitalize energy that has become blocked..

Shiatsu is a dynamic form of bodywork/massage that incorporates gentle movement, stretches and joint mobilisation to treat deeply into the whole energy of the body.

Change of plan - Daisy and I decided to take a diversion!

Spring has arrived.
After the stillness of winter it invites us to focus again on increased exercise and flexibility of body and mind to improve mobility and adapting to new situations:

Adapting to a 'Winding Path' in life might take longer, but it also might enhance Health and Well-being.

Imagine the blissful feeling of lying on your back and floating in chest deep warm water while being moved, rocked and stretched in a gentle dance-like flow:

Being held with presence and well supported throughout the session.

So much of what we carry sits quietly in our body. Stress often settles in long before we notice it.
The shoulders tighten, the breath shortens and small patterns of holding become our day to day baggage.

When we are floated in warm water with steady support, something starts to soften slowly and gently.
The body feels safe and at ease.
The breath deepens.
The inner journey unfolds.

The softness and warmth of the water combined with the heart centred approach of Watsu enables body and mind to relax deeply and to experience a great sense of freedom and contentment that restores your inner source of vitality and well-being.

If this resonates with you, please get in touch.

Many thanks, Ingrid
