The US Women’s Soccer Team won the 2019 World Cup and part of their secret wasn’t just skill or strategy, but tracking menstrual cycles and syncing it with their performance.

Coach Dawn Scott transformed an overlooked factor into a competitive advantage. By studying the four phases of the menstrual cycle; menstrual, follicular, ovulation, and luteal, she tailored training, recovery, and nutrition for each player:

- Training intensity matched energy levels during each phase
- Recovery like ice baths and massages were timed around high-injury-risk periods
- Nutrition during PMS reduced cramps and discomfort

The results were clear:

* 20–30% drop in minor injuries
* Better sleep
* Consistent sprint performance

While not the first team to experiment with cycle-based training, the USWNT mainstreamed the practice, inspiring women’s sports worldwide.
